Video has become an essential part of the Internet. Many bloggers use video instead of written posts, videos are used as instructional aids, on sales pages and of course, since YouTube became so huge, using video as a promotional and link building tool for websites is one of the fundamental aspects of SEO. Millions of people visit YouTube everyday, as well as other video submission sites, the video’s are included in most every SERP result in Google and once again if you make sure to properly SEO optimize each video submission with keywords, tags and a savvy researched keyword title, you will be amazed at the places it will show up over a short period of time making video just one more point of entry to your websites.

Free Video Creation/Screen Capture Software
I think many people are squeamish about using video because they think it’s a complicated proposition, and they need a web cam, or some high tech equipment to create videos, well this is not true. Below is a list of the top free video creation tools that actually record what is on your  computer screen and your voice in the background and that provides a lot of options to make videos for any type of niche.

Cam Studio - The cream of the crop for open source video creation and screen capture and completely free! Add music, voice overs and more.

Jaycut – Create marketing videos or slideshows quickly with this online video editor, which is browser-based, can run on mobile  devices and free. Ability to remix and trim videos; add music, transitions, effects, captions and subtitles, automated transcoding and 1 click export to YouTube and Facebook.

Adobe Premier Express - Made for newbies, easy to use and all you need is a web browser and Adobe Flash® Player, which most of us have on our PC’s. This is an online based video creation editor that can reorder, split, and trim your video clips; add music, transitions, and titles; add your favorite photos, graphics, and animation.

JING – Make short videos, capture screenshots and add your own labels and writing to them. There is a free version and a pro version for a few bucks per year.

GFX Video Writer – GFX Video Writer is not free, but it is cheap and very useful as it converts written articles into videos. Import an existing article to create a series of slides, then format each slide with fonts, colors, etc… add images if desired and background music from the software or do slide-by-slide voice overs and much more.

I want to let you guys know about a great new free service from Caroline Middlebrook, one of my favorite bloggers, for free automated social bookmarking links. IMAutomator is a really an easy to use free automated social bookmarking service that allows you get social site links and spread them our over time, which is really an added bonus.

Caroline has been working on this product for some time, and it really is a great service to have in your Internet marketing arsenal. While most social bookmarking site links are generally low in quality, they are a necessary aspect of your overall backlink portfolio and can really help to build backlinks to the often overlooked inner pages of your sites. Those inner pages should be the main focus of your social bookmark link building.

For the most part submitting to social bookmarking sites is a real pain, logging in to each site on by one, entering all the details like title, keywords and descriptions can really take a lot of time, so a free automated social bookmarking service like IMAutomater is really a life saver.

6 Main Benefits of IMAutomater for Automated Social Bookmarking

1. Easy Submission – With IMAutomater, you simply input the url you want to submit, and you can either enter your own title, description and keywords, or you can press a button and the system will fetch your Meta Tag info automatically. Then you can choose the submission frequency, which is one of the best parts of this service.

2. Submission Frequency Options – The frequency selection is a great aspect because it allows you to spread your links over time, and basically helps you to get a steady stream of links to your site on an on going basis.

  • 1 Day – all links in one day
  • 32 days – one link per day
  • 96 days – one link every few days

3. No Registration with Individual Social Sites Required – You don’t have to register or login with the individual social sites, IMAutomater submits with their own information, so much less work and hassle for you!

4. Fully Automated Social Bookmarking – This is a set it and forget it system, once you submit the system takes care of the rest!

5. Easily check the submission status of your submissions.

6. It’s a totally free and automated way to submit to social bookmark sites.

More To Come

There are 32 social bookmarking sites in the system now and Caroline is adding more on a regular basis. The program is still in Beta, though I’ve been using it for several weeks, without any problems, and if you do find some bugs, Caroline is asking that you please let her know. And there is much more to come…

  • Ability to spin titles, tags etc to be able to rotate submission details – This is great!
  • Select which sites to submit to, or all of them
  • More submission tools, not just social bookmarking

Here are more link building resources for search engine optimization and Internet marketing. I have added these to the master list: 65+ Social Bookmarking Sites.

Stumpedia - PR5
Very easy submit, picks up Meta Tags and has a bookmarklet for browsers. A human powered social search engine with 100% do-follow links, add your home pages and all sub-pages, choose categories and tag with relevant keywords.

Social Median - PR5

Easy submit with bookmarklet for browsers. This is one of the best social networks I have ever used. The key is to join news networks that are relevant to your sites, and there are many of them, or you can create your own.

When you submit your content the readers in those networks get emails with content updates. Votes on Socialmedian are called clips and it does not take too many clips to get on the front page. I always get lots of traffic from them and traffic that subscribes and buys, go check it out, there is a lot going on there.

Squidoo – PR8

I have mentioned this before but I will say it again, build some keyword rich lenses related to your sites topics and put some 100% do-follow backlinks on them to your sites. Many of my lenses are PR3+ because they piggy back on Squidoo’s page rank and the backlinks are very valuable.

Make sure to follow the lens building instructions for optimal success at: How-To Squidoo – Steps to Building the Best Lens for Website Promotion.

Wikidot – PR7

Build wiki’s or mini sites on any topic and put in your do-follow backlinks. I have not used this yet, but I hear good things.

Get it Gadget – PR0

Fairly new social site with do-follow links.

Zimbio – PR6

Zimbio will ping and publish your blog posts in relevant wikizines. You can also post articles and add links to your sites. All the links appear to be no-follow, but no-follow links are beneficial and the possibility for exposure and subscribers is there.

Do-Follow Blogs

Do-Follow Blog Search Engine

Newly launched and developed search engine to look for do-follow blogs. Updated regularly with very accurate results.

Happy Link Building!

A reader emailed me and asked for some advice about internal links:

“link titles” – that extra fill-in-the-blank box when entering a link in a post? Is there any value or is it just something nifty for the reader to mouse over?”

First, he is referring to Internal Links that are links back to your own home page and sub pages within your site’s content with the keywords you are targeting and want to rank for in the anchor text. Learn more at: The importance of Internal Link Building for On-Site SEO.

Purpose of Internal Links and
Title Tag vs. Anchor Text

1. Internal links are good for SEO. But, for SEO purposes the title tag is useless, the keyword anchor text is key to relate the page you’re linking to for the keyword you want it to rank for.

2. Improve Bounce Rate. Internal linking improves bounce rate (the rate at which visitors leave your site) and gives readers more stuff to browse on the site thereby keeping them there longer. The Title Tag, which shows up when the reader mouses over the link, is used for this purpose and is crucial to captivate reader interest and get them to read the contents of those links.

So, for example, while the anchor text (the keyword I want that page to rank for) may be Website Traffic, the Title will show more detail about the link, such as “Website Traffic that Converts are You Missing Out?”

Also, it is irritating to read a page and see internal links and not have any clue what is there, it is always good to give your readers a sneak peek.

Title Tag Code

Most softwares, including WordPress have a fill in box within the add link area for the title and then it will automatically code in HTML, but here is how the code looks:

<a title=”Sneak Peek” href=”http://domain.com/”>Anchor Keyword</a>

Here is how it looks live with the title tag appearing with a mouseover:

No-Follow/Do-Follow Link Attribute

In WordPress and most website software links created within text are automatically Do-Follow. For Google, when links are Do-Follow you are passing page rank juice to the url in the link and in essence giving it a vote of confidence helping their SEO efforts vs. No-Follow simply means that Google will not follow the link nor assign any rank to it based on your link juice to them.

When to add No-Follow:

For internal links you always want to pass your own internal page rank, also for reciprocal links and other sites that you may want to give a Google strong backlink to.

But, in reality there are several links that you may not want to do-follow and those need to be set manually as no-follow.

Examples for No-Follow:
Affiliate Links (should always be no-follow)
Authority/Reference sites cited to support content
Referral sites provided for readers
…and any other sites that you don’t need to waste PR juice on

Manually Adding No-Follow Link Attribute:

To add the no-follow attribute you need to go to the HTML source of your web page, in WordPress it is done in the post/page editor by clicking on the HTML tab and manually adding “rel-”nofollow” as shown below:

<a title=”Sneak Peek” href=”http://domain.com/”rel=”nofollow”>Anchor Keyword</a>

Free HeadersMust See!

By the way, I did not want to do a separate post on this, but you have to check out this website I found with free website/blog headers at: Free Web Page Headers. They are simply gorgeous with tons of themes and absolutely free, just right click and save image as and then resize to fit your needs in a graphics software such as Gimp Image Software, which, by the way is also free, quite famous and a complete graphics/photo editing software.

Hello everyone, hope all is well, sorry for no posts in a few days, have not been feeling well, I think it’s the sudden cold up here in the California mountains where I live. Will have our first snow on Monday, should be snowed in for about three days :-) …gotta love it.

Here are 7 more Do-Follow social sites for you link building efforts, and a couple of no-follows worth checking out. I have added these to the master list of 65+ Social Bookmark Sites.

QassiaDo-Follow. PR5. This one is really great, 100% do-follow. At Qassia you have to add articles or snippets of content, they call “Intel” on any topic and at the end of each of those you get a do-follow backlink to the site of your choice. You can add your pre-published articles or original stuff and earn Qassia dollars. The content can even be a couple of paragraphs, nothing fancy is required.

Also,  you can “Screen Intel” on member’s articles with a simple rating system and earn Qassia dollars that are used to make your content rank higher and get more link juice.

In the end you can distribute your Qassia dollars between all your sites depending on those websites or blogs you may want more link juice.

MegiteDo-Follow and easy submission.

SpotbackDo-Follow. PR5 – Spotback has cool widgets to add to your blogs and websites for rating your content, simple little star boxes (see mine at the end of the post). Readers do not have to leave your blog, once they rate it, it automatically goes to Spotback, COOL!! Also mouse over it and checkout how you can add tags without leaving the blog. Spotback has several options for widgets, as well as a WordPress plug-in.

Launch FeedDo-Follow. PR4, no anchor text, just URL. This one only allows you to submit your site once, so you can pick home page or a subpage.

Go ZoofDo-Follow - PR4 – This is one is good and is 100% do-follow.

Really Awesome PeopleDo Follow. PR2 @ $5 per link with your own custom personal page. This is Jim Kukral’s creation, not sure if it’s worth $5 but check it out and decide for yourselves.

No Follow Social Sites Worth Considering

Blogengage – No-Follow - PR3 – Blogengage is new but has some good traffic. Brian, the webmaster has also just added Adsense revenue sharing program, I think it’s 50/50. This one is easy submit with the browser bookmark button.

WobblogNo Follow, but lots of traffic there, can give good exposure for your websites and blogs.

KaboodleNo Follow. PR6.  Shopping site links, lots of members, especially female, good traffic!

Earners ClubNo Follow – IM/AM content only, still PR0 it’s fairly new but has some good traffic, brought me a few visitors to this blog.

2 Considerations for No-Follow Social Sites

1. Traffic – Some of them can bring lots of traffic like Stumble and Reddit and others are just a waste of time. This is something you have to determine on your own by testing, because some niches do really well on social sites and some just don’t!

2. Yahoo and MSN ignore the no-follow tag and so they are still worthwhile for backlinks with those search engines.

As a rule, I always submit to do-follow social sites for the links, but the no-follow sites I usually submit to on a case-by-case basis after some testing.

Happy Link Building!

Participating in forums relevant to your niche is one of the best ways to get relevant and targeted traffic to your sites and blogs.

Internet forums are so widely used and have thousands of members that ask questions and engage in discussions and that large audience can turn into targeted traffic that can lead to lots of sales and subscribers. If you have not utilized the power of forums in your Internet Marketing endeavors that you are really missing out.

Plus the fact that any good Internet marketing strategy involves a diverse backlink portfolio, so getting links from different IP’s and domains that are related to your site is the best way to higher SERP ranks, and forum sig links are decent places to get some links.

Posting in do-follow forums can give you a nice backlink for link building and search engine optimization. The do-follow forum link comes from a link you set in the signature option of your profile, referred to as a sig link. This sig link appears at the bottom of your forum posts. So, every time you post that’s a backlink! Remember to use a good anchor text for SEO but also make sure it is eye catching for the forum audience to get the click!

Make sure to read the TOS and Posting Rules to make sure that you will not get banned. Also check out all the topics available in the forum many of them have a section for website promotion, guides, articles and how-to’s where you can refer to your sites within the post itself.

Make sure to sound like an expert (no typos ) this can bring lots of traffic!

Getting targeted traffic from forum sites is one way to make money online right away, while waiting for SEO to take affect and SERP ranks for the organic traffic. Since most of the forum traffic is highly targeted they are much more likely to buy.

Directory submission is still a vital part of an overall link building strategy for Search Engine Optimization. I spoke about this in my post Is Link Building with Directories Dead? and in that post I also list a few “must submit to directories.”

With some testing I found out that directory links are helpful and all though those links have gotten a bad rap from some lately, I still submit to them. While some are looking for “perfect links” I just build links of all kinds, so just do some linkbuilding everyday from all sources:

Time Division Formula for Link Building:
40% – Article Marketing
25% – Social Bookmark Links/Forum Sig links/Blog comment links
25% – Reciprocal Link Exchange/Blogroll (related sites only, not links pages – home page or contextual links)
10% – Directories

Some Directory Submission Guidelines:

1. Some of the directories require a reciprocal link, you can be choosy here and opt out of those, it’s up to you, I usually go for the non-reciprocal required sites.

2. Go for the higher PR directories first.

3. Don’t do “bid” for links on any directory, not worth getting caught for buying links as they blatantly advertise it and there are plenty of free ones.

Two Free Directory Submission Softwares for Link Building

I have reviewed several free directory submission softwares and here are the two best ones. Easy, accurate and save loads of time.

**These are NOT completely automatic software, they only open the directory submission pages in the software window and save loads of time so you don’t have to visit each directory one by one, so you don’t have to worry about blind submission, you have total control and can explore the directories one by one and decide if it is one you want to submit to.

Make sure to diversify your anchor text and descriptions so your link building does not come off spammy and these softwares allow for different anchors and descriptions that automatically rotate.

G-Lock – Fast Directory Submitter – Unlimited websites, 150 directories submissions per site with free account, upgrade to paid for more submissions. Very easy submit!

Sliq Directory Submitter – Sort directories by Page Rank, very easy submit, 2000 directories in the database.

If you really do not have the time to deal with submitting, I also use Directory Submission Service that submits for me to directories and social sites and is very affordable.

I got an email from a reader asking me how to measure your SEO efforts? Only one way and that is with results.

End goal of SEO: Page 1 of SERPS (search engine result pages). By the way, if you are on page 1 don’t think it’s all over, you have to stay on top of it, there are always competitors lurking around the corner.

Okay so you are link building, doing on-site SEO and developing good content… are you moving up in the SERPS?

If you answered yes then that’s all you need to know!

If you answered no:

1. Keep building links

Time Division Formula for Link Building:
40% – Article Marketing
25% – Social Bookmark Links/Forum Sig links/Blog comment links
25% – Reciprocal Link Exchange/Blogroll (related sites only, not links pages – home page or contextual links)
10% – Directories
More on Link Building Basics…

2. Add more keyword rich original content

3. Check your On-Site SEO, is it optimal?

Most Important…

4. Look at your anchor text* for the keywords you want to rank for, if it’s not in the anchor you won’t be in the SERPS for those keywords. Learn more about the Importance of Anchor Text in Link Building.

*Use Free Backlink Checker from SEOPro, shows you top 10 anchors for your links.

Great Tool to Check SERP results:

I found this great tool the other day that checks where you are in Google SERPS. Other tools I have used were lame because they only gave a position number like 100, but I want to actually see the page and where my websites are, and for a long time I would sit and manually check the SERPS myself, but this could take a while with lots of pages to check one by one.

SEOAnalytic Google SERP Checker gives you the position number WITH a link to the actual SERP page where you could see your site- FANTASTIC!!

Just jot down the results and check again after a while to see the progress of your sites in SERPS and that is how you measure your SEO efforts.

By the way, do not use this tool or the backlink checker or any other automated tools too often, don’t go crazy by using them constantly. Google does not like automated checks like this, it uses too much of their resources. For anchor analysis, you can always use Google Webmaster Tools – “What Google Bot Sees” to view your anchors without risking penalty.

PS: In general, do not get preoccupied with checking SERP stats all the time. Just keep building links and let your site age. Often people get too involved, like checking everyday and it causes stress and can lead to loss of focus.

What do you guys think? Are you checking too often? Are you seeing your SEO efforts pay off?

All of a sudden these do-follow social bookmarks are just coming at me left and right. I have added these to the original post 50 Social Bookmarking Sites, which is now 65+ Social Bookmark Sites. Remember that social site links are a critical part of an overall link building strategy as well as the benefit of their ability to bring traffic to your sites.

MagnoliaMust Have! PR7 No-Follow Social Bookmark. No categories, just add tags. I just realized when editing my list that I had not put Magnolia on it, not sure how this happened, but this is one of the best Social Bookmarks for link building, even though it is a no-follow counts strong with Yahoo backlinks and when you join groups it can bring traffic to your sites, brought me traffic time and again.

Googletop - PR3 Do-Follow Social Bookmark. Various Categories. Googletop could have a few more categories for my taste, but it’s a good one for link building.

OopzaPR2 Do-Follow. Thanks to my friend Suzanne for turning me on to this one. Lots of categories, all though some of them are oddly specific. I found the submission process to be a little tedious since it did not automatically parse my Meta tag information, but worth the extra effort.

LipstickPR7 Do-Follow News Site. Celebrity related content only.

DzonePR6 Do-Follow News Site. Web developer related content only. Link is do-follow on inner page, not front page.

PlimePR6 Do-Follow News Site. Categories remind me of Digg, so be careful what you submit, you might get banned for spamming.

ListiblePR5 Do-Follow. This one is different, no categories instead there are lists, find a relevant list and add your links OR if there is no relevant list you can create your own and add all related content to that.

HumsurferPR4 Do-Follow News Site. Submit anything, no category limitations. Primarily this site is an Indian community news site, (that is the country) all though I did find many US stories.

Care2PR6 Do-Follow News Site. Categories include, tech, green/environment, wellness, animals, off beat. Link is do-follow on inner page, not front page.

HuggPR6 Do-Follow News Site. Green related content only.

ShoutwirePR4 Do-Follow News Site. Usual categories, tech, politics, biz…and then there is girls…where you find everything from Christina Applegate to Sarah Palin to Epic Boobs …webmaster must be a guy!

Remember to anchor your links correctly with your keywords. Also, remember to submit deep pages and not just home pages especially to the bookmark sites.

Cool Anchor Text Trick for Deep Pages: When anchoring your deep pages you can use this format Page Title | Main Keywords, if your site title contains the main keywords then you are all good, if not, make it appear as if it does.

For example, my laptop site’s main keywords are cheap laptops, so I can add a deep page anchored like this, Laptop Buying Guide | JR’s Cheap Laptops. Some sites won’t accept such a long title, but most do and this way you get your site-wide KW for every link.

Also, submitting to social sites can be very time consuming that is why I use Social Bookmarking Submission Service to submit for me. It’s a great service, submits to over 125 sites, really saves a lot of time and is very affordable.

Here’s to Link Building!

Anyone have any more to add to the list? Leave the info in the comments. Anyone have a favorite(s) where they have seen great results?
