With the recent changes in Google SERPS and the Google Mayday update mayhem of thin inner pages, ecommerce and thin affiliate pages getting slammed in rankings, I thought it was important to look at how to properly create and rank inner pages of websites and blogs.
Probably one of the most overlooked and potentially powerful aspects of any website or blog are the inner pages. So many times people focus on the home page in getting links and also for the display of content and navigation that the inner pages become almost an after thought in the overall site architecture – this is a big mistake!
Inner pages offer the most potential for bringing in tons of traffic and for dominating the SERPS for various keyword terms that people are searching for and if you are not targeting and optimizing your inner page content correctly you are really missing out on a plethora of traffic, which means you are missing out on strong streams of revenue.
While some ignore inner pages others have tons of them but they are not properly optimized and so they do not reap the benefits that they potentially can for the webmaster or blogger.
More Inner Pages Ranking in SERPS = More Traffic
and
More Traffic = Bigger Potential for Revenue
How To Get High Rankings for Inner Pages
1. Proper KW research
I know, keyword research – UGH – we eat, sleep and breath it, but again, we will not succeed without it!
Many people just create blog posts or static website pages without giving any thought or research into what people are searching for related to the niche of the site.
Search out keyword terms and phrases that people are searching for
AND
make sure the competition for those is fairly low (this can depend on your site’s overall authority)AND
do this for each and every page that you post.
otherwise…
you just have pages floating out in the Web that nobody will ever find!
Learn the steps in Step By Step Keyword Research.
2. Nauseatingly Long Posts and Pages – Competing in SERPS for Affiliate Product Pages and Ecommerce Sites
It is a fact that the search engines, and especially Google loves nauseatingly long posts and written content pages, remember that the search engines are very content driven and pages that are 1000, 2000, 3000 + words long are just so attractive to them.
For many 300 - 500 words may seem like enough, but I say NO WAY! This is especially true for affiliate and money sites, because remember in order for those to be favorable in Google you need to add additional value to the user above and beyond just affiliate and product links that all ready exist on the merchant’s site.
It is more important than ever to make sure that your product pages and affiliate feed pages have some added value, whether it be product descriptions, user reviews and comments, or anything related to the page.
If you cannot conceive of writing such long pages for money sites, or you just don’t have the time, then use PLR. There are some great PLR articles out there, such as the very well written niche topic Flamillion PLR Packs and eBooks, then rewrite them yourself, or use the Best Content Spinner, to easily and quickly make them unique. A perfect combination for creating tons of great content pages for your money sites.
For product pages, such as those on e-commerce sites, or affiliate sites that use product data feeds smaller blurbs of about 250 – 400 words are really helpful, especially since Google is favoring such pages in SERPS, as we are seeing in the Mayday update.
If you can’t stand writing and don’t want to spin then outsource your writing, for as little as $5 you can get 500 words of original well written content that you own. Check out 99 Cent Articles, I’ve been using them and they have excellent writers at a great price.
3. Link Building for Inner Pages
Once again, many strive to rank the home page in the SERPS and so they spend all their time building and attracting links to their home page, but what about the inner pages?
Get links to your inner pages and get plenty of them, write content people will want to link to, and don’t ignore your most important inner pages.
You can use this really great Article Marketing Submission Software to get exposure and links to your inner pages, try writing some articles and link only to your inner pages in the resource box. With 2 links in the resource box and submission to several hundred sites, you can easily get hundreds of backlinks to your inner pages with one submission.
Check out Article Ranks, this is a unique system for getting within content backlinks to you inner pages.
Trusted Domains and High Ranking of Inner Pages
One of the most magical aspects of having a trusted and high ranking domain in Google is that most inner pages (with exception of highly competitive keywords) that you launch will almost instantly take the top positions in SERPS. This is basically due to the fact that Google views your site as an authority and your links base profile is already so strong that all new inner pages will piggyback off that link power.
This blog for example has many inner pages sitting on page 1 in Google SERPS and this is because the base link profile is rather strong and the Google trust rank is high and so I can write a page of content, post it and most of the time within a couple of days it goes to Page 1.
Also, if you notice many of my posts are very long, 1000 words + because I want to provide a lot of value to my readers and so this happens naturally and I truly believe that this has something to do with the ranking success of this site, not only because people have naturally wanted to link to the value here, but also because of the length of the posts.
Ranking and trusted domain = easier rank of inner pages
New and Unranked Sites and Ranking of Inner Pages
When you site is new and the trust rank isn’t there more work will be required to get those inner pages to rank, so write some articles, build some links, including some social media links in the proper niche categories and get the word out about your great piece of content to attract good links to get you inner page to rank and bring you traffic and the potential for revenue.
New and Unranked Sites = The Need for More Links to Rank Inner Pages

Jim one of my readers emailed me with a great question, so I thought I would turn this into a blog post, as the question has come up before.
Basically the question is, how to change permalink structure sitewide on WordPress blogs and still retain rankins, PR and backlinks?
As discussed in Website Traffic That Converts, having proper permalink structures, which are effective for SEO is very important, and should be one of the first settings when setting up a new blog.
The optimal permalink set up is to use domain/post-name, which gives you domain.com/keywords-keywords-keywords.
Set Up Proper Permalinks in WordPress Admin
Settings – Permalinks – Select Custom Structure and place this trail /%postname%/ in the box.
Issues with Existing Blog Posts and Permalink Changes
For those of you who are playing catch up and want to change the permalink structure of an existing blog that has many posts and pages, this will be more complex, and will have some considerations.
Non Ranking Blogs
For newer blogs that really don’t have any rankings you still need to take care with changing permalinks. Remember that if you change the permalink structure on a blog that has several to a lot of posts then all the existing url will return a bunch of Error 404 pages, and while the sitemap will update to the new URL’s and the search engines will eventually catch up, it’s NEVER a good idea to have a lot of 404 pages sitting on your site, the proper way to do this is with 301 redirects.
Ranking Blogs
If those posts are ranking, have PR and backlinks, simply changing the permalinks will effectively kill those rankings, along with PR and any backlinks that point to those pages. Basically, if you just go and change the permalink structures in the WP dashboard all the existing post URL’s will render 404 Error pages, and therefore will disappear from the SERPS.
If you have an existing blog with many post pages and you still want to change the permalink structure because you realize your existing one is not optimal for SEO or users BUT you still want to keep the attributes those posts may have, like PR, rankings and backlinks, then you need to change those permalinks with 301 redirects.
301 Redirects
Basically a 301 redirect, which is a permanent instruction telling the search engines that the page has moved to another one, tells the search engines that the page is still the same, just the URL has moved and so rankings, PR and backlinks will roll to the new URL. In fact, Google is very good at this kind of roll over, I can tell you from personal experience, that as long as the 301 Redirect is done correctly, rankings and PR will not be affected, though they might see a temporary drop, you can learn more about it at Google on 301 Redirects.
Options for Implementing 301 Redirects in WordPress
First and Foremost
***If you have a massive blog that ranks well and does well in search engines, then consider just leaving it as it is, I probably would not do such mass changes on a blog that is doing fine in SERPS.
Always be sure and make a backup of your database in case anything gets messed up, you can install the original version of your blog, WP Database backup is a good plugin for this and should actually be used on all your blogs to backup databases regularly.
Manual
Manual redirects done via individual hosting accounts within the htaaccess files. If you know code this is one option, but this is not recommended for those without any knowledge of code, and can be quite cumbersome if you need to redirect a lot of pages, such as the case with site wide permalink changes.
Permalinks Migration
This is the one plugin that automates the 301 process sitewide so all pages will be redirected. So all old permalinks will convert to new permalinks automatically, and a 301 redirection will be implemented so that rankings and PR will roll over to the new URL’s.
Redirection WordPress Plugin
This one has a lot of features, but only redirects one page at a time, so not the best option for changing permalinks site wide, but great for doing 301′s on a page by page basis. This plugin is great to have around in case there are times when you want to change a page’s URL structure and move it somewhere else properly.

It looks like Google is on the lookout and actively banning MFA sites.
What is MFA
MFA stands for “Made for Adsense Sites.” And these are sites created for the sole purpose of making money with Adsense.
The Banning of MFA’s
There has been quite a bit of buzz of late that many Blogger blogs that were MFA’s have been getting completely deleted by Google and the Adsense accounts associated with those getting banned as well, or if the sites were self hosted there has been a a complete deindexing of these websites from the SERPS.
Best case scenario is some Adsense accounts were not completely banned, but the sites were from the index.
This recent rash of deindexing of MFA sites and bans all seem to come from a particular network of bloggers that followed an MFA model that was widely taught and blogged about on some popular make money online blogs. Many of these sites even used the exact same “minimalist” blog theme, Blogger blogs and duplicate layouts.
The end result is that only did the weak MFA sites get hit, so did some of the MMO bloggers that were blogging about these kinds of techniques got hit with some sort of penalty as well.
In reality, the “get rich quick” and the “easy” ways to make money online for beginners are very attractive to most newbies, and so of course, many jumped on the MFA bandwagon, which in turn attracted the attention of Google.
I don’t really want to get into the who’s and what’s, as the purpose of this post is not that, but to warn all of you to not waste time building crappy sites for the purpose of making money with Google Adsense.
Make Money Online with Adsense Properly and 6 Valuable Lessons We Can All Learn From This
1. Don’t Make Google Look Stupid
Look, it’s simple, monopoly or not, like it or not, Google is the cornerstone of any online business, they can make or break you, so play by their rules and follow their webmaster guidelines- it’s really that simple!
Google’s rules are really not so bad, all they want is quality for their customers the searcher, and if they are gonna pay you money for clicks then they have a right to dictate the kind of sites those ads are placed. Most any valuable ad network actually monitors and evaluates websites where their advertisers ads will be placed.
Google, has, does and always will protect their interests and market share as they should, and if you think they don’t monitor the popular MMO and IM blogs to see what kind of teachings and information is being spread then you live under a rock.
2. Use Adsense Wisely
Adsense can be a great income stream when used properly. It should be used to compliment the website as just one revenue stream, it should not be sole purpose of building the website, this is the hallmark of MFA’s.
This is actually true for any affiliate site as well, there has to be value for the traffic over and above the ads and affiliate links or else these type of thin affiliate sites will suffer in the Google SERPS or possibly get completely deindexed all together.
3. Don’t Waste Time
Don’t waste valuable time launching 100 crappy sites sites just to make money with Adsense. Provide value and quality to users and build good sites that will bring long term revenue and a solid business model that doesn’t possess the risk of getting banned and wasting months of hard work.
4. There are NO Real Long Term Get Rich Quick and Easy Schemes Online
This business takes work and a lot of it in order to see long term and permanent results of your labors. Taking shortcuts that can get you banned are never wise choices, they may work for a little while or even some time, but eventually they only lead to problems.
In reality, in the world of Internet Marketing and Making Money Online you get back what you put in, and while building 100 MFA sites with crappy links and no quality may take some work, it doesn’t compare to the real work of building quality sites that endure and bring revenue for years to come.
5. How To Get Your Sites Banned
If you really want to get your websites banned, then build a site that uses the same theme, republish a few articles on it from Ezine or Article Dashboard, add some Adsense ads and place them in a way that they overlap and block your site’s content: rinse and repeat a lot of times over and I guarantee that you will get your sites banned very quickly
.
6. Learn From Others – Don’t Make the Same Mistakes Yourself
I am now going to refer you to a very educational and comprehensive post from Ben, one blogger who was hit very hard with this Google MFA banning – I’ve had my last 4 months of work knocked out in an instant by Google – hundreds of sites completely deindexed last week .
It is a 4000 word synopsis on how NOT to make money online in 2010 and really hits home about the experiences of someone who within a day of reaching the $100 a day Adsense revenue mark had all his Adsense sites deindexed.
I appreciate Ben’s honesty and clarity as to what he learned, and I truly believe that some of the most valuable lessons in making money online and Internet marketing are learned from the negative experiences AND we can learn from others, like Ben and not have to suffer the same fate!

Good news for those that have been wanting to convert their pages to posts on WordPress blogs, as there is now a free plugin to do just that. Many times bloggers organize their blogs in various ways, and using pages as well as posts is a great way to achieve a good hierarchy and navigation on the site, but, pages on WordPress are not as well optimized as post pages because you cannot set tags or categories and they do not show up feeds or RSS directory displays.
Well now you can convert any pages you have on WordPress with Vice Versa.
This is a great plugin and has several features:

If you’re goal is to make money online free, then inevitably you realize that you need more than one site, which many of us all ready have. Managing a wide array of websites is difficult and can get pretty crazy, since we are usually working alone in our online business ventures and do not have a team or marketers on hand, or even a secretary.
As I have said several times, I often wish I could clone myself
Because of this reality, it is crucial to work smarter and not harder!
WordPress and Blogging Versus Building Money Sites
WordPress is a great CMS (content management platform), referred to as blogging software, but it can be used to build any kind of sites, not just those for the traditional purpose of blogging, and that includes making multiple money sites for free. Traditional blogging is a much more personal endeavor that is mostly about connecting with readers and attending to subscribers. It is a social entity.
A blog can be about information, education, flagship for a particular niche or even just a personal life blog, whatever the topic, most bloggers “care” a lot of their audience versus the money sites where the goal is have them click on Adsense, or to perform whatever action is needed to make money.
While bloggers will make money, you don’t have to be a traditional blogger to make money online, in fact the two venues are quite different. Most traditional bloggers want to be famous in their niche, and blogging is essentially a social entity on the web, while real Internet marketers could care less, we just want cash,
and in reality, if you want to make money online for free using WordPress is a great option.
And,
WordPress software is an easy and very user-friendly platform to build niche sites quickly and easily for the purpose of making money online. Using WordPress over static website software is a much better alternative, as it is easy to create, update and promote content virally in WordPress than other website software and it is a great alternative to make money online for free.
So,
Since most marketers will have a multitude of money sites, as opposed to bloggers who usually focus on one blog, it is important to be able to build and launch these money sites quickly as time is always an issue and then get on with the all important promotion of those sites.
In this post, I am referring to using WordPress as simply a platform to build numerous money sites quickly in order to make money online in an efficient and time saving manner, and NOT necessarily for the traditional blogging venue as described above, all though the two can overlap and most of these tips can be used to build traditional blogs quickly as well.
7 Tips to Build and Launch Multiple WordPress Money Blogs Quickly
1. Quickly Adding WordPress Platform to Domains
Use cPanel in your hosting account to add WordPress to your domain. All cPanels have automatic upload either via Fantastico or just named WordPress. Takes 1 minute to upload all the necessary files to begin building your money site. This can also be done manually, but who needs that when it can be done in minutes automatically and correctly, so no files are forgotten.
2. Familiar WordPress Themes
After some experience with WordPress, most everyone has a favorite theme, at least I do. This is the theme that you know, you have played with it, maybe gone into the Editor files and know how to edit the PHP files, and CSS. If you don’t I suggest that you find one, or maybe two and learn them well.
This is the theme that is best used for the money sites and to make money online for free, as it will become a breeze to update the site and edit and style it according to specific site needs.
Also, always use professional themes and layouts that are pleasing to the eye and are not broken in some way, where for example Adsense is overlapping onto content, LOOKS REALLY LAME and will not aid you to make more money online.
3. Easy Plugin Install Option for Multiple Sites
As with themes there are standard plugins that we all use and need on all of our WordPress domains.
Some of mine are
All-In-One SEO, WordPress Automatic Database Backup, Google XML Sitemaps (sitemaps for Google), Dagon Design Sitemaps (sitemaps for visitors), Home Page Excerpts, WP-Cache, Similar Posts, Collapsing Categories and Akismet.
Yours maybe different.
To easily manage multiple site plugins, use your cPanel hosting File Manager
You don’t have to upload the plugins one by one to each of your money sites WordPress blogs.
Go to your File Manager in cPanel of your hosting and copy the files from an existing site that has the same plugins. You can just copy over the files an existing domain’s Plugins folder to another.
Takes just a few minutes. Then activate them in WordPress Admin.
By the way, you can do the same with other standard files, like Robots.txt, Disclaimers and Terms and Privacy Policies. Then just edit the site details and url’s from the cPanel file manager.
4. WordPress Admin Setting
Once the theme and plugins are uploaded, I can quickly go through the Settings in Admin Dashboard of WordPress and set it up the same way I always do, when you’ve done it several times, it’s a breeze because you know the interface so well. This includes, setting up sidebar widgets, footer links and other stuff.
5. Content Shortcuts
The content quality level for money sites is not necessarily as important as that for the “blogging” or flagship sites. It really isn’t. The focus is to make money and not rivet readers (unless you have a review type site where you really want to pursuade someone to buy a product) the focus is monetization.
And, in order to make that money online and for free you want to target the correct longtails for as many inner pages as possible to get the most possible free search engine traffic to that site, as search traffic buys. If you need to learn more about accurate keyword research, then please visit this guide Step-By-Step Keyword Research.
For websites that you build to make money online you want someone to leave your site using an available form of monetazation, Adsense click, Banner click, or any other type of adds that you have, so Ad placement is crucial.
I am not saying to write crap…but do not worry so much about it. The most crucial aspect of content pages on money niche sites is keyword research because along with WordPress, which is a free software, that search traffic is also free, and so you will be making money online for free.
Find good longtails and write posts about those, it’s the best way to get a long term stream of that previous search engine traffic. More details on that here: Higher Rankings with Proper Keyword Reasearch.
Time Saving Keyword Research
Don’t over think it.
Use Free SEO Book KW Tool, search the main niche keywords of the site and note all the long tail results.
Then, Google, allintitle:”KW” to see the competition, for those longtails.
Crunch The Numbers:
a. Search numbers can be low for inner pages, as long as some exist.
b. Competition, I go for under 20,000 and 1st page of SERPS does not have more than 3 PR3+ pages (usually longtails have fairly low competition)
It should take less than an hour to get a list of several good longtails to target for content pages.
Then you can start creating some posts that target those longtails, usually 5 pages of inner content are enough to start with as you will want to update on a regular basis.
Content Tips To Manage Multiple Sites
Golden rule for content – Nauseatingly long posts work best!
If you want to make money online for free then you need that search traffic and 800+ word content pages on money sites attract search engines, and allow for appropriate keyword targeting, NOT stuffing, but targeting, as a 800 + word page will naturally mention them without needing to over do it. Also, because these are money sites, you want to have more content than affiliate pages or links, especially with a new site, so those very long posts really boost favoritism from Google because they add value.
In reality, if you have several money sites writing these kinds of long pages by hand will be extremely time consuming and draining.
Save Time with Quality PLR
Using quality PLR (public label rights articles) that is written well and in good English will save you loads of time. But make sure that you do not just copy them into your sites. Because so many people use PLR, you have to rewrite them to make them unique and original, this is very important, as you do not want build a scraper looking site. You can buy PLR articles and you can also get them for free, just make sure they are quality articles and not a load of crap.
You can rewrite the PLR by hand, or use The Best Spinner, which I highly recommend you all check out because it is an excellent tool, and it now features the ability to post spun articles directly to your WordPress blogs from the tool’s dashboard.
Good PLR Resources
Tons of PLR Downloads for All Niches – Excellent resource put together by George at Serradinho Blog.
Free PLR Articles – Excellent resource from Jonathan Scott, lots of niches, and well written content
All Private Label Content – Some nice free packs
There are tons more sites with good PLR content online, you can also Google your niche + PLR and you will find relevant articles.
6. Quick Google Indexing for Finished Money Sites
Once your site is ready it is crucial to attract the search engines as quickly as possible and get the website indexed, especially by Google. Submit a content page (not home page) or two to Mixx, Jumptags and Stumble. Digg works great too, as long as there is an appropriate category for the niche. Google will always notice your site via those venues.
Every time I do this, my site is indexed within 2 days, all other on-site issues being equal, like proper on-site SEO, clean design and no tech issues.
7. Ongoing Promotion Methods
Then I submit the XML sitemap to Google Webmaster Tools, write a couple of articles for it to submit to article directories, especially Ezine Articles, add some more social bookmarks, a few directory links, and let it rest and age for a couple of months before building any more links or doing heavy promotion. In the meantime I keep adding more content regularly.
Using the above methods I can create, design, and launch a new site in about a day or at most two and have unlimited possibilities to make money online for free! The more practice the easier it gets.
Anyone have any additional tips to save time when building their money sites?

Add Comments and Ratings To Static Websites – Free!!!
Posted by JR in Affiliate Marketing, Content Creation, Webmaster/Website Optimization, Website Tools
Just a quick post today as a follow up to the Google Mayday Update, where so many webmasters, especially e-commerce sites suffered tanked SERP rankings for their long tail keywords because of thin inner product pages, and overall thin inner content pages.
Following that Mayday update many webmasters started to look for ways to repair the damage, some of the fixes and post Mayday techniques that are worth a look are at my post at How To Create and Rank Inner Website Pages.
I found yet another gem that will really enhance any static website pages by providing user generated content on auto pilot for those website platforms, that unlike WordPress blogs, do not have the ability to leave comments and it’s FREE!!!!!
Citricle Rateback, is an incredible free tool that gives you a copy and paste script that will add comments as well as ratings functions to any static website. This is really cool because this is a very effective way to add more content and beef up those static site pages, and e-commerce product pages, just like Amazon has on each of their product pages.
By the way, there are no outlinking issues here, because the script only includes, name and email, no URL.
Truly this is a must have tool for any static site that wants to keep up in today’s highly competitive and content demanding Google search engine, as more and more thin sites are getting left behind, while those that think out of the box and consistently adding more are destined to excel.
And, even if you are not concerned with the search engines and Google rankings, then think of your users and website traffic. Comments and ratings can only help them add more interactivity, engagement and product ratings on your sites, all of which in turn can greatly increase revenue, whether from your own product sales or affiliate products. Get yours at Citricle Rateback.
