Many bloggers use video instead of written posts, videos are used as instructional aids, on sales pages and of course, since YouTube became so huge, using video as a promotional and link building tool for websites is one of the fundamental aspects of SEO. Millions of people visit YouTube everyday, as well as other video submission sites, the video's are included in most every SERP result in Google and once again if you make sure to properly SEO optimize each video submission with keywords, tags and a savvy researched keyword title, you will be amazed at the places it will show up over a short period of time making video just one more point of entry to your websites.

<g:plusone size="standard" count="1" href="http://getinternetmarketingstrategies.com/2011/09/47-premium-link-building-strategies/"></g:plusone>

Before implementing effective link building strategies it's important to make sure that your sites are optimized for the keywords you are targeting and the on-site SEO is properly implemented. There should be a lot of keyword relevant content on your site and the home page should provide a lot of relevance for the keywords you are targeting. In reality, ranking is not just about effective link building strategies, it's also about the relevance of your site to its keywords. Remember that you are dealing with an algorithm in Google, a bot that automatically crawls sites and then decides if the site should rank for the keywords its targeting, it's never enough to just build links with proper anchor text or to have your keywords in the title tag of the page, the on site content must match as well.

The goal of any link building strategy is to become an authority in your niche, that is how Google views the quality links going to your sites, votes for your authority.
But you cannot be an authority if your websites are not loaded with authoritative content and so those high quality links will never come.

Junk Links = Junk Content.... that is how Google sees it!
and in reality that is a fact, high quality sites will not link to junk. So when your content is not top notch you will only be able to get crappy links.

Effective link building strategies in 2011 and beyond are all about Quality over Quantity. For example, while webmasters used to be able to use mass directory links to rank various keywords, those days are gone, and directory links are pretty much useless. Google has gotten really good at detecting and disqualifying links that are manually built, and even penalizing sites that go too far in their link building, so be careful especially with new sites. Premium link building involves more consideration and a more careful process. What worked last year or two years is no longer viable because Google has gotten smarter and is in essence waging a war on crappy links!

Effective Link Building Strategies For Premium Link Building

1. The most effective link building strategy in premium link building is to make sure your link profiles look natural! All webmasters and bloggers with do manual link building, this is just a fact, but there is link building that is efficient and then there is the kind that's reckless and consequently can be destructive, ie: doing 3 guests posts on relevant blogs vs. 5000 profile links via automated software like Sick Submitter.

2. Don't be greedy in link building and don't rush to rank, long term ranking takes time, patience and quality links, NOT 10,000 profile links. The Google algorithm has gotten smarter, build links slowly and look to quality and not quantity.

3. One of the best link building strategies that I can offer you is that it's better to get 2 premium links than 500 crappy links.

4. Write high quality content and promote it to get natural links as much as possible, this is the best of premium link building that has longevity and guarantees long term success. Commenting on related Comment Luv Blogs is a safe and easy way to give your content exposure, which brings traffic, which brings links when other bloggers like what they read.

5. Google has confirmed that they will be using their own social site ratings, Google +1, as part of the ranking algorithm for SERP rankings, so make sure your content lives up to getting a +1 rating. The best WordPress Google +1 plugin is here.

6. Get links for ALL the pages on your site, NOT just the home page. Many people get all their links to the home page only, another red flag. In reality, you can rank the home page without a bunch of links because as you get links to your inner pages it naturally helps with the ranking of all the pages on your site, including the home page.

7. Build links slowly for new sites. Start with just a few and then let it age for a month or so before getting more and keep adding quality content.

8. Avoid crappy low quality links and especially when your site is new. Try to build a solid link profile with strong links, like contextual links from related sites as much as possible before getting crappy links, like a lot of articles, blog comments, irrelevant site links...etc. New sites do not have any trustworthy quality signals, such as quality links and that is that's when low quality links can hurt the most.

9. Do reciprocal links correctly. Reciprocal links happen online and in in of themselves they are not bad, I have many here, posts I have written and linked within my posts to a blogger's content that I loved and then they linked to something I wrote, that's fine and happens naturally online all the time, but having pages of reciprocal links is a link scheme and totally useless and dangerous in 2011 link building.

10. The same as above goes for placing hundreds of reciprocal links on blogrolls, another big red flag that screams low quality, spammy link schemes or paid links for both the linker and the linkee!

11. Some of the most premium links and especially for new sites are Press Releases and since those spread around the Internet, that could bring traffic that will love your content and link to you, check out List of 41 Press Releases and How To Write Press Releases.

12. NEVER EVER use link pages, those are those web pages usually named something really stupidly obvious, like domain.com/links or worse yet domain.com/link-partners and the page is full of nothing but reciprocal links to other sites that have your site on their "links page". This is not only no where near premium link building, it's an obvious link scheme only meant to manipulate search engines into rankings. They are worthless, completely outdated and dangerous because it screams link scheme and can you sent to the Google black hole! If you have a links page, DELETE IT NOW!!!

13. Effective link building strategies include links from a diverse set of IP's.

14. Low quality directories are bad news, and especially those that advertise "Improve Your Rankings" "SEO Friendly", "Paid Link Gets DoFollow and Higher Placement", all bad news, useless links that carry no weight or any valuable link juice and can be especially negative for new sites with no trust rank.

15. Vary your anchor texts, vary, vary vary and vary again. Natural link profiles do not have the same exact keyword phrases for their anchors that site owners are targeting for each link, people do not link out that perfectly naturally. Basically each page, especially home page, should have no more than a 25% occurrence of the same anchor. If every link in your profile has the exact same anchor for each page, then you can be sure to raise red flags and get a quick penalty from Google, like the -50, which lands every singe page of your site on Page 5 or lower, and there they will stay for months and years. Use the URL as the anchor, use click here, this site, add other words to the anchor to go along with the main keywords.

16. Don't do link bombs (yes, 1000 links in one day is a bomb, even 500, even 300).

17. Build links slowly - Quality over Quantity (did I say that all ready?)

18. Make friends with bloggers in your niche and network.

19. One of the best link building strategies is to link out to others. Create "Best Of" "Top 100" type posts referencing other's people work and sites in your niche, when you give other people links you get links back. Linking out is good, contrary to some myths out there, you don't have to hoard your link juice, and worry about losing traffic (if you're worried you probably don't have much anyway), and no linking out to good sites and content won't hurt your rankings, it actually helps, learn more at Linking Out From Your Website.

20. Track rankings to see the effectiveness of your link building strategies. Depending on the competitiveness of your keywords, you can sometimes rank with very few links.

21. Track your link building and anchors over time, Majestic SEO is free and works great.

22. Get both nofollow and dofollow links. Learn more at NoFollow vs Dofollow Links - Why You Need Both.

23. Checking out and duplicating competitor's links is a great link building strategy. Use Open Site Explorer and then try to get the same.

24. Contextual links are best - These are links that are within a related piece of text. Even better when the entire site is in a related niche.

25. Don't waste time on useless links that link directly to your money sites (Forum profile links, ie: Angela's links, directories, crappy article sites, ie: content farms)

26. Use social media. Make friends, connections, reach out to other bloggers and network, this often creates community which results in premium link building opportunities that come naturally. Learn more with Best Social Media Apps To Boost Your Brand.

27. Don't get stuck on getting links only from blogs, try to get links from static sites and various platforms. Learn more at Links From Static Website.

28. Write content that is link worthy, this is the absolute best way to get a natural link profile. Make sure to get that content noticed by using various social sites, Facebook, Twitter, and social sites specific to your niche. Here are 22 Social Sites To Promote Internet Marketing, Blogging, Make Money Online, SEO Related Content.

29. Guest posting is premium link building at its best. You would be surprised how many authority, "high end" blogs and sites accept guest posts, Mashable does, and many others as well. Usually you can find the link in their footer. Check out My Blog Guest, a community for guest blogging. Also, search in Google:

30. STAY AWAY from Themes sponsorships. This is a link scheme where you pay to get links to your sites placed in WordPress theme footers, and users of those themes cannot remove the links, which can result in thousands of useless and harmful toge links and Google has penalized sites time and time again for doing this, it's an obvious link scheme, useless and harmful to your sites.

31. Getting footer links in general is NOT premium link building. They are old news and scream PAID links!

32. Do not solicit hundreds of blogroll links (unless they are freely given of course).

33. Avoid home page, footer, blogroll, contextual or any kind of links on irrelevant sites. When Google sees a link to Weight Loss on a Laptop site that's a red flag for paid link.

34. Another solid link building strategy is to run a good contest with great prizes. Most readers will link to spread the word.

35. Be careful using link wheels. Link wheel link building strategies can be effective when done properly, which most people don't know how, and so then they become dangerous because they can be easily detected and viewed as link farms, which is against Google TOS.

36. Internal link building within your own site is an essential link building strategy. Placing links to your own content on relevant posts and with relevant anchor text goes a long way for SEO. Learn more at Internal Link Building for On Site SEO.

37. Build Links To Your Links - 2nd and 3rd tier links are very effective for getting a powerful flow of juice to your money or primary sites. Build links to your articles, and social media links, get links for the content that links to you. Example: You get a link on a blog in a post + Write an article on GoArticles and Ezine Articles linking to that post + Submit that article to social media links. This is where many find profile links to be effective, they use them to boost links to their sites, instead of linking directly to their money or primary sites.

38. Retweet other bloggers work, they notice that you notice and that creates networking that can go beyond Twitter.

39. Ask for links! This is not something I spend a lot of time doing, but probably should, it's tedious work, but many top SEO's spend their days doing this type of premium link building. Most emails I get for this, and I get many each day are useless, because theses people send generic crap reciprocal link page requests, but sometimes some good ones come through and usually these emails contain some good content the webmaster has written and feels the a link on my site to that content is useful and relevant to my readers, so if you have linkable content that's one approach. Learn more about using this link building strategy at: Best Ways To Outreach Link Building.

40. Get an interview from someone important in your niche. This will usually earn you a backlink to that interview on their sites and others.

41. If you are going to comment on dofollow blogs make sure and check out the comment section for blogger moderation of comments. If you see a bunch of casino, sex or viagra author comment links that are being followed, don't leave your link there, that's a bad neighborhood!

42. Link baits are still great link building strategies, learn more here.

43. YouTube is a great source of traffic (and the link in the profile is dofollow), but more important than that link is the fact that YouTube and other video submissions sites are loaded with viewers. You can get a lot of exposure, traffic back to your sites and if your content is top notch - backlinks!!!!!!

44. AVOID 3 way link exchanges, and especially with low quality sites. This is another old school link scheme that can cause issues with Google because if you do a lot of these then a link farm schema can be easily detected. I get lots of email requests for these and it's always shady because the webmaster offers some crappy sites for exchange. Usually these are sites created just for this purpose, they have no real value, they are not updated or promoted correctly so the link itself is pretty useless, the last email listed a site that had 215 blogroll links all ready, all irrelevant by the way. What a scam, you give them a link on your high end site and they give you a link on crap?!??!

45. Be careful if you're buying links. It's not worth the penalty, especially avoid buying links at Digital Point Forums, many sites there are so obviously selling links and Google will detect them sooner than later.

46. Convert your best articles to PDF format and submit to the bestPDF directories like Scribd and Docstoc. This let's you show off your work, and can get traffic which can lead to more links.

47. The final link building strategy for premium link building is that link relevance is more important than link quantity! Yes, it's better to get 5 links on relevant sites than 50 links from irrelevant sites.

BEWARE! BEWARE! Many SEO firms and link building services are at the very least shady, and at the very most down right crooks! One of the dangers with link building services is that you never know what their going to do until it's too late. Many webmasters have found out the hard way when their sites go to the Google black hole and they figure out it's because there are thousands of bad links, built too fast by unethical link building services that are suspect and unnatural. And, removing links is a very difficult and often impossible task.

Not all link building strategies are legitimate, not all links are good for sites and not all companies know how to build proper link building strategies and get premium links in the proper time frame to get long term website rankings and avoid various manual and algorithmic penalties that Google is famous for. The truly effective and legitimate link building services and SEO firms costs thousands of dollars, which most people who are trying to make money online can never afford, nor is it really necessary. Learning how to build links properly is an important skill that all webmasters and Internet marketers need to attain and there are plenty of link building services online that are cost effective, legitimate and really work as told by previous users to leave testimonials which allows for a lot more transparency.

That being said there is a proper way to hire link building services without risking your money sites.

Tips For Choosing Link Building Services

#1 is legitimate user feedback, this is usually found on various webmaster forums, such as, Warrior Forum and Digital Point with reviews being left by real users who have used the link building service. Do not trust reviews that you find on the link building site, Google the services name and find impartial reviews instead.

Another essential aspect of good link building services is complete and total transparency. It should be evident where the links will be built, what kind of links they are, how many links will be created and in what time frame.

If the link building service does not rank for its own search terms that is a good sign they do not know what their doing. Just check their site title and see if they rank.

Link building services that guarantee you #1 Google positions are BAD NEWS! No one can make those guarantees, there are too many variables and many of those depend on your particular keywords, competition, age of your site, and so many other elements that no one can really guarantee that and if they make that claim they are not being honest!

Before you use any link building service you should have an understanding of SEO, link building and the current landscape of the search engines. This way you will understand how to best spend your money and not waste it on useless services.

Warriors For Hire

If you are looking to build links to your sites some of the most premium link building services can be found on Warrior Forum at the Warriors For Hire Section. The feedback and reviews from previous users is priceless, and there are a lot of various link building options constantly being updated. There are tons of premium link building offers at Warrior that are transparent and you will know exactly what is being done to your site because you can pick and choose those services that you want to use, instead of handing over your site to some link building service where you have no control over what types of links they will build for you. Once again, as I mentioned before, beware of the link building services that offer 10,000 forum profile links in one day, these are real popular now, but they are a useless waste of time and money and can really get you a Google penalty real quick. Many of these offers do not vary anchors and you never want to get thousands of manual links all at once anyway ( unless they are natural of course ). Profile links are so obviously manually built, who else but the webmaster would post a link to his site on a 1,000 different forum profiles?

Don't rush to build links too fast, long term ranking takes time and sites need to age, many webmasters get ranking penalties because they build too many crappy links too fast. Remember that while there are a lot of great link building service offers on Warriors For Hire you always want Quality over Quantity.

With the recent changes in Google SERPS and the Google Mayday update mayhem of thin inner pages, ecommerce and thin affiliate pages getting slammed in rankings, I thought it was important to look at . . . → Read More

<g:plusone size="standard" count="1" href="http://getinternetmarketingstrategies.com/2010/07/how-to-create-and-rank-inner-pages-post-mayday-update/"></g:plusone>

With the recent changes in Google SERPS and the Google Mayday update mayhem of thin inner pages, ecommerce and thin affiliate pages getting slammed in rankings, I thought it was important to look at how to properly create and rank inner pages of websites and blogs.

Probably one of the most overlooked and potentially powerful aspects of any website or blog are the inner pages. So many times people focus on the home page in getting links and also for the display of content and navigation that the inner pages become almost an after thought in the overall site architecture - this is a big mistake!

Inner pages offer the most potential for bringing in tons of traffic and for dominating the SERPS for various keyword terms that people are searching for and if you are not targeting and optimizing your inner page content correctly you are really missing out on a plethora of traffic, which means you are missing out on strong streams of revenue.

While some ignore inner pages others have tons of them but they are not properly optimized and so they do not reap the benefits that they potentially can for the webmaster or blogger.

More Inner Pages Ranking in SERPS = More Traffic

and

More Traffic = Bigger Potential for Revenue

How To Get High Rankings for Inner Pages

1. Proper KW research
I know, keyword research - UGH - we eat, sleep and breath it, but again, we will not succeed without it!

Many people just create blog posts or static website pages without giving any thought or research into what people are searching for related to the niche of the site.

Search out keyword terms and phrases that people are searching for

AND

make sure the competition for those is fairly low (this can depend on your site's overall authority)AND
do this for each and every page that you post.

otherwise...
you just have pages floating out in the Web that nobody will ever find!

Learn the steps in Step By Step Keyword Research.

2. Nauseatingly Long Posts and Pages - Competing in SERPS for Affiliate Product Pages and Ecommerce Sites
It is a fact that the search engines, and especially Google loves nauseatingly long posts and written content pages, remember that the search engines are very content driven and pages that are 1000, 2000, 3000 + words long are just so attractive to them.

For many 300 - 500 words may seem like enough, but I say NO WAY! This is especially true for affiliate and money sites, because remember in order for those to be favorable in Google you need to add additional value to the user above and beyond just affiliate and product links that all ready exist on the merchant's site.

It is more important than ever to make sure that your product pages and affiliate feed pages have some added value, whether it be product descriptions, user reviews and comments, or anything related to the page.

If you cannot conceive of writing such long pages for money sites, or you just don't have the time, then use PLR. There are some great PLR articles out there, such as the very well written niche topic Flamillion PLR Packs and eBooks, then rewrite them yourself, or use the Best Content Spinner, to easily and quickly make them unique. A perfect combination for creating tons of great content pages for your money sites.

For product pages, such as those on e-commerce sites, or affiliate sites that use product data feeds smaller blurbs of about 250 - 400 words are really helpful, especially since Google is favoring such pages in SERPS, as we are seeing in the Mayday update.

If you can't stand writing and don't want to spin then outsource your writing, for as little as $5 you can get 500 words of original well written content that you own. Check out 99 Cent Articles, I've been using them and they have excellent writers at a great price.

3. Link Building for Inner Pages
Once again, many strive to rank the home page in the SERPS and so they spend all their time building and attracting links to their home page, but what about the inner pages?

Get links to your inner pages and get plenty of them, write content people will want to link to, and don't ignore your most important inner pages.

You can use this really great Article Marketing Submission Software to get exposure and links to your inner pages, try writing some articles and link only to your inner pages in the resource box. With 2 links in the resource box and submission to several hundred sites, you can easily get hundreds of backlinks to your inner pages with one submission.

Check out Article Ranks, this is a unique system for getting within content backlinks to you inner pages.

Use Unique Article Wizard

Trusted Domains and High Ranking of Inner Pages
One of the most magical aspects of having a trusted and high ranking domain in Google is that most inner pages (with exception of highly competitive keywords) that you launch will almost instantly take the top positions in SERPS. This is basically due to the fact that Google views your site as an authority and your links base profile is already so strong that all new inner pages will piggyback off that link power.

This blog for example has many inner pages sitting on page 1 in Google SERPS and this is because the base link profile is rather strong and the Google trust rank is high and so I can write a page of content, post it and most of the time within a couple of days it goes to Page 1.

Also, if you notice many of my posts are very long, 1000 words + because I want to provide a lot of value to my readers and so this happens naturally and I truly believe that this has something to do with the ranking success of this site, not only because people have naturally wanted to link to the value here, but also because of the length of the posts.

Ranking and trusted domain = easier rank of inner pages

New and Unranked Sites and Ranking of Inner Pages
When you site is new and the trust rank isn't there more work will be required to get those inner pages to rank, so write some articles, build some links, including some social media links in the proper niche categories and get the word out about your great piece of content to attract good links to get you inner page to rank and bring you traffic and the potential for revenue.

New and Unranked Sites = The Need for More Links to Rank Inner Pages

Caroline has been working on this product for some time, and it really is a great service to have in your Internet marketing arsenal. While most social bookmarking site links are generally low in quality, they are a necessary aspect of your overall backlink portfolio and can really help to build backlinks to the often overlooked inner pages of your sites. Those inner pages should be the main focus of your social bookmark link building.

For the most part submitting to social bookmarking sites is a real pain, logging in to each site on by one, entering all the details like title, keywords and descriptions can really take a lot of time, so a free automated social bookmarking service like IMAutomater is really a life saver.

6 Main Benefits of IMAutomater for Automated Social Bookmarking

1. Easy Submission - With IMAutomater, you simply input the url you want to submit, and you can either enter your own title, description and keywords, or you can press a button and the system will fetch your Meta Tag info automatically. Then you can choose the submission frequency, which is one of the best parts of this service.

2. Submission Frequency Options - The frequency selection is a great aspect because it allows you to spread your links over time, and basically helps you to get a steady stream of links to your site on an on going basis.

1 Day - all links in one day

32 days - one link per day

96 days - one link every few days

3. No Registration with Individual Social Sites Required - You don't have to register or login with the individual social sites, IMAutomater submits with their own information, so much less work and hassle for you!

4. Fully Automated Social Bookmarking - This is a set it and forget it system, once you submit the system takes care of the rest!

5. Easily check the submission status of your submissions.

6. It's a totally free and automated way to submit to social bookmark sites.

More To Come

There are 32 social bookmarking sites in the system now and Caroline is adding more on a regular basis. The program is still in Beta, though I've been using it for several weeks, without any problems, and if you do find some bugs, Caroline is asking that you please let her know. And there is much more to come...

Ability to spin titles, tags etc to be able to rotate submission details - This is great!

Select which sites to submit to, or all of them

More submission tools, not just social bookmarking

The 2009 report, is a compilation of data from over 72 successful SEO's. While there were not too many surprises, it's definitely worth a look, check it out at: SEOMoz 2009 Ranking Factors.

The Top 5 ranking factors that are listed are pretty much in line with what most of us know, and of course #1 SERP ranking factor is still Keyword Anchor backlinks to the site.

#3 on the list is diversity of link source, which we sometimes over look and should be a focus since links from a variety of domains, IP's and sources is important and will count much more for ranking. They also list the 5 top negative ranking factors, most of which are black hat strategies. Overall, it's really a great read.

Also, make sure to check out their Link Building guidelines which is mentioned in the post, lots of great information there where they breakdown the effectiveness of link building from a variety of sources and methods, as well as, factors affecting the values of external backlinks. Great stuff, check it out!

Overall SEO Moz, provides some solid SEO info on their blog, so subscribe to their updates.

<g:plusone size="standard" count="1" href="http://getinternetmarketingstrategies.com/2009/04/how-to-rank-for-high-competition-keywords/"></g:plusone>

Sorry I have been remiss in updating too much, I have been redesigning this blog and it is taking a lot of time as I am not a blog or web designer, and right now I REALLY HATE CODE! By the way I finally figured out how to redesign a blog behind the scenes so stay tuned for that tutorial!

Anyway, here is my take on how to rank for high competition keywords, sort of a follow up to higher search engine ranks with proper keyword research, but on a positive note.

Ultimately the best keywords are those that have lots of competition, often in the millions, because those are the ones that are searched for the most, cause and effect people! It is very difficult to rank for those keywords, but there is a way.

When doing keyword research there are always long tail keywords. A long tail keyword is simply a phrase with the main keyword in it.

Example:

Main keyword: Computers

Long Tail: Buy Cheap Computers

Now, if you look at the competition for most any popular main keywords it is usually very high, keywords like, money, credit cards, loans, mortgage, insurance, health, cell phones, computers, laptops, cars, the list can go on and on. Ranking for these keywords is going to be a long hard road. So, what you need to do is target the long tails for them and rank for those.

Let's say I want to rank for cell phones, which has 2,700,000 competing sites with allintitle search query. So, I will find a couple of good long tails that still have a good amount of searches and much less competition, for example, cheap cell phones (15,000 competing sites) and buy cell phones (8,910 competing sites).

Now I build my links with those phrases in the anchor text and over time my site will rank for those long tails, but because the main keyword cell phones is in those longtails I will inadvertently begin to climb in the SERPS for cell phones, and depending on the link building efforts and the quality of the backlinks will get there sooner or later. Make sense?

You can do this over and over again with any keywords, but again I always check Page 1 of the results, because there are some keywords that are just not worth it because too many big guns sit on Page 1, all though nothing is impossible , just takes more effort, experience and time.

Time is always key here, as for some of those main keywords it could take a while to rank, but, that is okay because the long tails I pick will get me decent traffic, sales, Adsense revenue and whatever else I am targeting in the meantime, and once I get to Page 1 for the main keywords, which usually have gizzillions of daily searches then it's all golden and I'll be laughing all the way to the bank.

<g:plusone size="standard" count="1" href="http://getinternetmarketingstrategies.com/2009/04/how-to-rank-for-high-competition-keywords/"></g:plusone>

<g:plusone size="standard" count="1" href="http://getinternetmarketingstrategies.com/2009/03/no-follow-vs-do-follow-links-and-why-you-need-both/"></g:plusone>

One of my readers, Caleb, asked about the benefits and differences of nofollow and dofollow links for Internet marketing.

Overal, dofollow is obviously the best type of backlink because it passes link juice from one site to another and counts the anchor text for keyword relevance, but, do not discount the nofollow completely!

The original meaning of the nofollow attribute as created by Google means:

Not follow through to that page to crawl its content

Not count the link in calculating Page Rank.

Not count the anchor text in determining what keywords the page being linked to is relevant for.

Now, this basically means that the nofollow tag in backlinks will not pass any link juice to your website or blog, will not help to index your site, nor will the content of the page you are linking to be crawled, as a result of being found on that page where the nofollow link is, nor will any relevancy be given to your website for the keywords used in the anchor.

Do all the search engines treat nofollow the same way?

Google emphatically states, as the creator of the nofollow tag that, the nofollow attribute complies will all the characteristics stated above. No crawl of content, no link juice passed, no keyword relevancy and no index as a result of that backlink. Google simply does not follow the link at all!

Yahoo says, that "If we find a link we make it available to our algorithms to find new content, whether it has a ‘no follow’ attribute or not. However, if the ‘no follow’ attribute is present, it means that no attribution is given to the target from the source of the link."

This means Yahoo will crawl and will index the content, but will not pass link juice.

MSN Live stated they are on board with all the parameters of the nofollow attribute as stated above.

Ask.com, completely ignores the nofollow

Is what they say truth or fiction? Well, if you do some research around the blogosphere, (with the exception of Ask) you will find conflicting results, as some have tested and found results that contradict these statements by Yahoo and Google. In fact, many believe that Google sometimes does follow the nofollow links, and that Yahoo ignores the nofollow all together. Is this true, possibly, but it in reality it doesn't matter! Do I care? No! Will I spend my valuable time doing this research? No! Because I'd rather spend it building links.

In essence you want to have both types of links because:

1. Only getting do-follow links will look un-natural and could cause alarms to go off. When building links you want to look as natural as possible and get a variety of links from all types of sources.

2. Getting a high Page Rank nofollow link is better than no link at all.

3. All types of links can bring traffic, not the best buying kind, but good for subscibers, as from compelling comments on related blogs. Just as Caroline Middlebrook, she built a lot of her 4,000 + subscribers with a sound blog comment strategy.

4. If you focus all your time on researching where to get do-follow, you lose the valuable time to just build links, all kinds, all types.

5. Yahoo, though they say will not pass link juice or keyword relevance, still crawls and indexes websites from a nofollow link. And, ASK ignores it completely.

6. The SE's can possibly lie, what a shocker

7. Many nofollow links are delivered with Google Alerts all the time, this is not earth shattering, but it tells me that Google is aware of those links. With some authority sites, like the socials, I can add a link and literally 1 hour later I get a Google Alert.

I have lots of nofollow links, some natural and some manual. But I never spend more than 5 minutes getting those manually. For example, a site offers me to build a mini site with my content and I can link back to my sites and the links are nofollow, I will pass because the time investment to build a mini site full of content is way more energy than I wish to spend for nofollow links. But, with Squidoo and Hub pages for example, the links are do-follow so the time is definitely worth it.

For article marketing, nofollow links have benefits as well, as some article sites are nofollow, but they are high PR, and other webmasters go there to get content to republish on their sites and this leads to getting more dofollow links from that article going viral.

So the lesson here people is just get links

Here are some tools that will aid your blog commenting efforts.

DO NOT SPAM the blogs, read the posts and get involved in the conversation by providing quality comments, if you SPAM you will ruin for the rest of us and your comment will just get deleted.

Easy Comment Firefox Add-On - This is a must have! Automatically fills out blog comment forms with your name, email and url for the profiles you have pre-entered. And, if you comment on many blogs with different urls and keywords, this one will save you loads of time because it supports multiple profiles.

One click and the form is filled out, no more entering your information manually on each blog. The profile selector sits in your browser's bottom status bar, right click and select a profile, click the easy comment icon and the profile you selected instantly goes into the comment form. Supports all blogging platforms.

Comment Sniper - If you want to be the first to comment, then this tool is for you. Gives real time alerts when the blogs you program into it update and so you can be the first to comment.

Finding Do-Follow Blogs:

Do-follow blogs are good for backlinks. By the way, do not ignore the no-follow blogs for comment backlinks, they are beneficial as well, because Yahoo and Live both ignore the no-follow attribute.

As anywhere else, relevancy to your keywords is essential when commenting is part of your link building strategy and especially for those blogs that allow keywords in comment names.

There are many lists of do-follow blogs out there, I only listed one. The lists are nice but they become outdated after a while since blogs change their comment policies and many of these lists only offer Internet marketing related blogs. So, I listed a couple of good search engines and free softwares that find do-follow blogs by keyword.

Feverish Thoughts - Do-Follow Blogs List - This is one of the longest lists I ever found with a variety of blogs on all subjects.

Do-Follow Diver - Great search engine for finding do-follow blogs.

Do-Follow Search Engine - Newly launched with current results.

Real Link Finder - Free software to find do-follow blogs by keyword subjects.

Fast Blog Finder - Free software to find do-follow blogs by keyword search.

Finding Top Commenter Blogs

Top commenter blogs is where the blogger lists the top commenters in their sidebar or footer, giving them a quality site-wide backlink to their sites.

Top Commenter List - Yan of Thou Shall Blog put together the best list of Top Commenter blogs that is also updated regularly and listed by PR.

Comment Plugins for WordPress

Here are some of the best comment related plugins for WordPress.

Akismet Spam - Must Have! Catch and filter spam blog comments, Akismet is highly accurate and will filter out SPAM comments for you to review and delete or post.

WP Threaded Comments - Must have! Puts the reply link under each comment and nests replies below the original comment.
Cap Comment - Turn off comments when a post has reached the limit you set.

No Follow Free - If you want to make your blog do-follow, this plugin is great!

I have added these to the master list: 65+ Social Bookmarking Sites.

Stumpedia - PR5
Very easy submit, picks up Meta Tags and has a bookmarklet for browsers. A human powered social search engine with 100% do-follow links, add your home pages and all sub-pages, choose categories and tag with relevant keywords.

Social Median - PR5

Easy submit with bookmarklet for browsers. This is one of the best social networks I have ever used. The key is to join news networks that are relevant to your sites, and there are many of them, or you can create your own.

When you submit your content the readers in those networks get emails with content updates. Votes on Socialmedian are called clips and it does not take too many clips to get on the front page. I always get lots of traffic from them and traffic that subscribes and buys, go check it out, there is a lot going on there.

Squidoo - PR8

I have mentioned this before but I will say it again, build some keyword rich lenses related to your sites topics and put some 100% do-follow backlinks on them to your sites. Many of my lenses are PR3+ because they piggy back on Squidoo's page rank and the backlinks are very valuable.

Make sure to follow the lens building instructions for optimal success at: How-To Squidoo - Steps to Building the Best Lens for Website Promotion.

Wikidot - PR7

Build wiki's or mini sites on any topic and put in your do-follow backlinks. I have not used this yet, but I hear good things.

Get it Gadget - PR0

Fairly new social site with do-follow links.

Zimbio - PR6

Zimbio will ping and publish your blog posts in relevant wikizines. You can also post articles and add links to your sites. All the links appear to be no-follow, but no-follow links are beneficial and the possibility for exposure and subscribers is there.

Do-Follow Blogs

Do-Follow Blog Search Engine

Newly launched and developed search engine to look for do-follow blogs. Updated regularly with very accurate results.

"link titles" - that extra fill-in-the-blank box when entering a link in a post? Is there any value or is it just something nifty for the reader to mouse over?"

First, he is referring to Internal Links that are links back to your own home page and sub pages within your site’s content with the keywords you are targeting and want to rank for in the anchor text. Learn more at: The importance of Internal Link Building for On-Site SEO.

Purpose of Internal Links and
Title Tag vs. Anchor Text

1. Internal links are good for SEO. But, for SEO purposes the title tag is useless, the keyword anchor text is key to relate the page you're linking to for the keyword you want it to rank for.

2. Improve Bounce Rate. Internal linking improves bounce rate (the rate at which visitors leave your site) and gives readers more stuff to browse on the site thereby keeping them there longer. The Title Tag, which shows up when the reader mouses over the link, is used for this purpose and is crucial to captivate reader interest and get them to read the contents of those links.

So, for example, while the anchor text (the keyword I want that page to rank for) may be Website Traffic, the Title will show more detail about the link, such as "Website Traffic that Converts are You Missing Out?"

Also, it is irritating to read a page and see internal links and not have any clue what is there, it is always good to give your readers a sneak peek.

Title Tag Code

Most softwares, including WordPress have a fill in box within the add link area for the title and then it will automatically code in HTML, but here is how the code looks:

<a title="Sneak Peek" href="http://domain.com/">Anchor Keyword</a>

Here is how it looks live with the title tag appearing with a mouseover:

No-Follow/Do-Follow Link Attribute

In WordPress and most website software links created within text are automatically Do-Follow. For Google, when links are Do-Follow you are passing page rank juice to the url in the link and in essence giving it a vote of confidence helping their SEO efforts vs. No-Follow simply means that Google will not follow the link nor assign any rank to it based on your link juice to them.

When to add No-Follow:

For internal links you always want to pass your own internal page rank, also for reciprocal links and other sites that you may want to give a Google strong backlink to.

But, in reality there are several links that you may not want to do-follow and those need to be set manually as no-follow.

Examples for No-Follow:
Affiliate Links (should always be no-follow)
Authority/Reference sites cited to support content
Referral sites provided for readers
...and any other sites that you don't need to waste PR juice on

Manually Adding No-Follow Link Attribute:

To add the no-follow attribute you need to go to the HTML source of your web page, in WordPress it is done in the post/page editor by clicking on the HTML tab and manually adding "rel-"nofollow" as shown below:

<a title="Sneak Peek" href="http://domain.com/"rel="nofollow">Anchor Keyword</a>

Free Headers - Must See!

By the way, I did not want to do a separate post on this, but you have to check out this website I found with free website/blog headers at: Free Web Page Headers. They are simply gorgeous with tons of themes and absolutely free, just right click and save image as and then resize to fit your needs in a graphics software such as Gimp Image Software, which, by the way is also free, quite famous and a complete graphics/photo editing software.

Internet Marketing - Link Building Affirmations

Never forget that the cornerstone of Internet Marketing is link building. The main way to Page 1 of SERPS (Search Engine Page Results) is via quality backlinks from other sites with relevant keywords in the anchor text.

Manual Link Building vs. Natural Link Building

Manual link building is basically building links via manual efforts, such as with, articles, reciprocal linking, directories, blog comments etc, as opposed to natural links when other's link to your content and web pages on their own.

It looks like the scrooges have spoken, and manual link building doesn't work! HA HA!! Meanwhile I am LMAO all the way to page 1 of SERPS!

Lately I am seeing posts in the blogosphere that manual link building is dead, and those links are worthless, and these links don't work anymore and that it's a waste of time to build links manually, blah, blah, blah.

Well, I beg to differ, because several of my niche sites sit high in SERPS, a few on page 1 for their keywords and this blog is on page 2 with over 52,000,000 competition primarily from manual link building.

Now, I do get lots of link luv for this blog and that really helps, and I am not saying those natural links aren't fantastic and wonderful, but what I am saying is that you can rise to page 1 of SERPS with manual link building only and sometimes manual link building is the only and best option for Internet marketing!

The Difference Between Blogs/Flagships and Niche-Affiliate Sites

Often times, a flagship blog like this one will get a good share of natural backlink link luv from the blog community, since there is a lot of interaction with other bloggers and the blog model usually brings about more opportunities for natural link building overall, but in most cases this alone is not enough to rank page 1 anyway.

And, when it comes to affiliate marketing websites, or small niche sites, natural link building can be elusive, unless your Laptop Mag or CNET. So, you are not left with many other options but manual link building, such as with articles, forums, blog comments and directories.

And, yes those links still work!!!

I have several niche sites that are sitting high in SERPS, with all manual link building and not one natural link. And, yes this includes directories, because depending on the directory, those links do still work, contrary to the hype. And, in reality all I really care about is results as they are always the proof of what works and what doesn't!

Manual Link Building Time Strategy:

40% - Article Marketing
25% - Reciprocal Link Exchange/Blogroll (home page & within content links)
25% - Social Bookmark Links & Forum Sig links & Blog comment links
10% - Directories - 2 Free Directory Submission Softwares

Plus some random links, such as press releases and Squidoo lenses as listed in 13 Ways to Link Building.

In conclusion, just build links everyday! Use your anchor text and get all the links you can get, including some of those no-follows, that Google ignores but Yahoo, MSN and Live still follow and those search engines do bring website traffic as well.

And, don't worry about the scrooges of Internet Marketing, they are probably just lazy, and while they are waiting for those natural links, and bitching about what doesn't work, we'll be building links and laughing our way to page 1!!

Will have our first snow on Monday, should be snowed in for about three days ...gotta love it.

Here are 7 more Do-Follow social sites for you link building efforts, and a couple of no-follows worth checking out. I have added these to the master list of 65+ Social Bookmark Sites.

Qassia - Do-Follow. PR5. This one is really great, 100% do-follow. At Qassia you have to add articles or snippets of content, they call "Intel" on any topic and at the end of each of those you get a do-follow backlink to the site of your choice. You can add your pre-published articles or original stuff and earn Qassia dollars. The content can even be a couple of paragraphs, nothing fancy is required.

Also, you can "Screen Intel" on member's articles with a simple rating system and earn Qassia dollars that are used to make your content rank higher and get more link juice.

In the end you can distribute your Qassia dollars between all your sites depending on those websites or blogs you may want more link juice.

Megite - Do-Follow and easy submission.

Spotback - Do-Follow. PR5 - Spotback has cool widgets to add to your blogs and websites for rating your content, simple little star boxes (see mine at the end of the post). Readers do not have to leave your blog, once they rate it, it automatically goes to Spotback, COOL!! Also mouse over it and checkout how you can add tags without leaving the blog. Spotback has several options for widgets, as well as a WordPress plug-in.

Launch Feed - Do-Follow. PR4, no anchor text, just URL. This one only allows you to submit your site once, so you can pick home page or a subpage.

Go Zoof - Do-Follow - PR4 - This is one is good and is 100% do-follow.

Really Awesome People - Do Follow. PR2 @ $5 per link with your own custom personal page. This is Jim Kukral's creation, not sure if it's worth $5 but check it out and decide for yourselves.

No Follow Social Sites Worth Considering

Blogengage - No-Follow - PR3 - Blogengage is new but has some good traffic. Brian, the webmaster has also just added Adsense revenue sharing program, I think it's 50/50. This one is easy submit with the browser bookmark button.

Wobblog - No Follow, but lots of traffic there, can give good exposure for your websites and blogs.

Kaboodle - No Follow. PR6. Shopping site links, lots of members, especially female, good traffic!

Earners Club - No Follow - IM/AM content only, still PR0 it's fairly new but has some good traffic, brought me a few visitors to this blog.

2 Considerations for No-Follow Social Sites

1. Traffic - Some of them can bring lots of traffic like Stumble and Reddit and others are just a waste of time. This is something you have to determine on your own by testing, because some niches do really well on social sites and some just don't!

2. Yahoo and MSN ignore the no-follow tag and so they are still worthwhile for backlinks with those search engines.

As a rule, I always submit to do-follow social sites for the links, but the no-follow sites I usually submit to on a case-by-case basis after some testing.

Happy Link Building!

<g:plusone size="standard" count="1" href="http://getinternetmarketingstrategies.com/2008/12/do-follow-social-sites-for-link-building/"></g:plusone>

Plus the fact that any good Internet marketing strategy involves a diverse backlink portfolio, so getting links from different IP's and domains that are related to your site is the best way to higher SERP ranks, and forum sig links are decent places to get some links.

Posting in do-follow forums can give you a nice backlink for link building and search engine optimization. The do-follow forum link comes from a link you set in the signature option of your profile, referred to as a sig link. This sig link appears at the bottom of your forum posts. So, every time you post that's a backlink! Remember to use a good anchor text for SEO but also make sure it is eye catching for the forum audience to get the click!

Make sure to read the TOS and Posting Rules to make sure that you will not get banned. Also check out all the topics available in the forum many of them have a section for website promotion, guides, articles and how-to's where you can refer to your sites within the post itself.

Make sure to sound like an expert (no typos ) this can bring lots of traffic!

Getting targeted traffic from forum sites is one way to <a target="_blank" title="Make Money Online" href="http://thekeywordacademy.com/" target="_blank"rel="nofollow">make money online right away, while waiting for SEO to take affect and SERP ranks for the organic traffic. Since most of the forum traffic is highly targeted they are much more likely to buy.
