As a follow up to Internet Marketing for Bums – Zero Start Up Costs, there are free blogging platforms available for those that want to start a blog with zero start up.

Free blog platforms vs. self hosted platforms means that you can start a completely free blog that is hosted by the platform providing it, instead of buying a domain name and paying for hosting as with self hosted blogs. Of course, free blogging platforms will give you less control over your blog, but they are useful in some situations.

Internet Marketing For Bums

A free blog can be used as a landing page instead of or along with Squidoo lenses and Hub Pages with the same promotion techniques that I listed in Internet Marketing for Bums – Zero Start Up Costs, but, free blogs will need more attention than Squidoo and Hub Pages, as there is no rank piggy-backing with free blogs. You will need to use the usual Internet marketing strategies like aggressive link building for promotion and SERP rank.

Two Most Popular Free Blog Platforms

Blogger – Google’s free blog platform allows you build a free blog. There are many themes and options for customizing and it is easy to add Google Adsense or any other affiliate products you want to.

WordPress.com – WordPress free blog platform. This is a blog that is hosted by wordpress so it is completely free. Not to be confused with WordPress.org, where you can get information on self hosted wordpress blogs.

Blogger vs. WordPress

BLOGGER

  • Blogger is much more versatile and has many options
  • Blogger allows you to place affiliate links, Adsense and any of your own ads
  • Blogger does control comment features, like there is no do-follow option for comments and I think they have eliminated allowing url’s in comments.

FREE WORDPRESS

  • Free WordPress does NOT allow affiliate links
  • Free WordPress may place their own money making ads on your blog
  • Storage and bandwidth limits

The point is, If you want a free blog, then go with Blogger, WordPress is limited and while I have not used it, I have heard from other affiliates that there were problems.

Beyond Bum Marketing – Free vs. Self Host Blogs

Beyond bum marketing, the decision to choose a self hosted or free blog I think in large part comes down to the goals and Internet marketing strategies of the blog.

Are you blogging specifically to make money online?

OR

Are you launching a flagship blog, that is a blog where you will want subscribers, visitor engagement and fame for your name?

Internet Marketing Strategies – Make Money Blogs

If you just want to make money online via Adsense for example, by posting keyword rich content on a blog to rank in the SERPS for popular search terms and getting clicks on your Adesense and other ads from search traffic then you will not care so much about subscribers, readers and creating popularity for yourself so a free blog platform is a great alternative. You don’t have to pay for hosting, or any other fees and you can launch many blogs without any fees or star up costs.

Internet Marketing Strategies – Flagship Blogs

If, on the other hand, you want to create a blog that is targeted for subscribers and you want to become famous and make a name for yourself and engage your readers beyond clicking on ads, then a free blog is not your best option. A self hosted blog is necessary in this situation, for several reasons:

  • Design – Tweaking and customizing a free blog is like remodeling a rented apartment, you may put in all the work and effort, but it is not truly yours.
  • Branded domain
  • Your own real estate – Unlimited control of content, design and everything else
  • Professional – A self hosted blog is more professional and is much more brandable overall than a free blog.

By the way, this is not to say that a free blog that’s main goal is to make money will not get lots of subscribers, depends on the content, as is the case with Grizz’s blog Make Money Online, that started out with primarily MMO in mind, but has gained a very large readership. But, generally speaking, if you want to become another Problogger, you will need a self hosted blog.

A free blog platform is still a great way to get some experience in the world of Internet marketing and to see if blogging is for you. I do not believe that blogging is for everybody, it does take a lot of discipline, drive and interest to keep it going and maintain success whatever your goals. More on this in the next post.

What do you guys think? Anyone using free blog platforms?

A friend asked me tonight, how much money do I need to invest in order to start an online business and make some extra income?

This is a pretty regular question, as many of us starting out do not have tons of money to invest for Internet Marketing and we are desperate to break free of the 9-5 and work at home.

In reality an online business is very unique because unlike the usual business models, you can literally start and make money whether it’s full time or extra income, without investing a ton of money or even a single dime.

Eventually, I think you will need to spend some money, at the very least on a web hosting account but you can get started right away without spending a cent. And, you can use the money you make from bum marketing to finance future online campaigns and go on to build your own sites and blogs and bum marketing will teach you a lot about how to make money with Google Adsense, or with affiliate marketing and all for free!

Internet Marketing for Bums

Bum marketing is a nickname for launching online campaigns that are completely free of start up costs, not even hosting that will allow you to make money!

While you can use paid software to create websites, such as BANS, there are venues that allow you to build your own mini-sites that are hosted by someone else, but allow you to create your own piece of Internet real estate and launch your Internet Marketing campaign.

Some Benefits of Using Free Venues to Build Webpages

1. Great way to gain experience and learn the how-to’s of Internet marketing affiliate marketing, creating a web page and more before engaging on a grander scale.

2. These sites allow you to make money online without spending any. They are easily integrated with many affiliate programs, such as eBay, Amazon, Adsense, or you can use whichever you want and these venues share their revenue so you can make some cash directly from them.

3. These venues rank on their own, and so you will piggyback off their rank and your pages can rank in the SERPS (search engine page results) much quicker and with a lot less work than a site launched from scratch giving you that magical search engine traffic.

Free Webpage Venues for Internet Marketing:

Squidoo Lenses – Building free Squidoo lenses to promote the products you choose is one of the best places to get your feet wet in Internet Marketing and start to make money online completely free.

In fact, even those of us who have been in this biz for a while continue to use Squidoo, I have 15 lenses myself, and several of them bring in a regular monthly income.

There are some tricks to build a lens correctly that will rank high in SERPS as well as promotion and easy code resources, learn more at my guide How-To Squidoo Steps to Building the Best Lens that will show everything you need to know to build a lens the right way as well as the important promotion techniques for lens rank to make money.

By the way, for those of you with sites, building Squidoo lenses is a great way to promote those sites and you can give yourself 100% do-follow backlinks from them. Several of my lenses are PR2, 3 and 4 and those are A+ links.

Hub Pages - Hub Pages rank very high in SERPS, depending on how competitive the keywords are. Basically the same concept as Squidoo, except that Hub Pages are more strict and monitored than Squidoo by their admin for quality content and spam. There is less flexibility in placing affiliate links and having the Hub Page be too commercial.

They LOVE fresh content at Hub Pages so focus on that and use your products to support the content. Integrate your Amazon, eBay, Adsense and Kontera affiliate accounts. Just read the TOS, and make sure to follow the rules.

The key to Hub Pages is really networking with other authors. Visit, comment and become a fan of other Hubbers and they will visit you. If you keyword optimize your Hub page properly, same as a Squidoo lens, then you can rank high in SERPS for those keywords.

I recommend Squidoo over Hub Pages, much more flexibility and no one nagging you about what you add to your webpage.

Step-by-Step Internet Marketing for Bums

1. Keyword Research

Do some keyword research to find good keywords for your webpage. Aim for low competition keywords and focus on long tails. These are keyword phrases within a main keyword. Example, main keyword “laptop”, long tail keyword: “Used Cheap Laptops.” Long tails and micro niches can be found with a good amount of searchers and much less competition. Learn more and get tools at Step-by-Step Niche and Keyword Research.

2. Build a Webpage

Use one or more of the free venues to build webpages. As previously mentioned, I recommend Squidoo.

3. Article Marketing

Write a few related articles and link to those webpages from the resource box. Article marketing will bring traffic as well as backlinks.

  • Use different keywords so you do not outrank yourself :-(
  • Submit to these top article sites:

Ezine Articles
Article Dashboard
Go Articles
Article City
Article Alley
Amazines
Articles Factory

4. Social Bookmarks

Use social sites and submit your content, see 70+ Social Bookmarks Sites.

5. Anchor Text

Make sure to use your keywords in the anchor text for any backlinks to your webpages, while Squidoo and Hub Pages rank on their own, those backlinks will just increase the ranking power. Learn more at: The Importance of Anchor Text in Link Building.

6. US Free Ads

Use US Free Ads classifieds to promote your webpages and drive traffic, traffic that is well targeted as those visitors are looking to buy! Free account gives you 2 adds with unlimited content. $10 a year gives you many more.

7. Internet Forums

You can also use Internet Forums to promote your webpages and get some links. Make sure they are relevant to your topic and then the traffic is very targeted. Use this list of 144 Do-Follow Forums by Niche to find some.

Be patient, keep at it and good luck!!!

As with any Internet Marketing campaign some testing is needed. Not all Bum Internet Marketing campaigns are big successes, as is with any online venture.

Some of my Squid lenses have never made a cent, while others are doing great. But, no matter what, you cannot beat the hands-on free Internet Marketing experience and the extra income potential with these resources.

What is Squidoo?

An effective Internet Marketing strategy, Squidoo is a website which allows you to build your own webpages, called “lenses” wth your own custom URL, personally designed and with a ton of features and components.

What are the Benefits of Building a Squidoo Lens

Website Promotion – To promote your sites and blogs and get exposure to large amounts of traffic from other Squidoo members as well as the Search Engines. When optimized with hand picked keywords, and customized and promoted correctly (as described below) Squidoo lenses will rank high and quickly in SERPS, and you will get some great website promotion opportunities for all your campaigns.

Backlink – Get a backlink to your websites/blogs.

Steps to Building an Effective Squidoo Lens

1. Choose your Keywords

Make sure, as always, to research the keywords you want the lens to rank for. These are not necessarily the same keywords as the website your promoting, they could be other good keywords for your niche that you did not use on your website, this way access to your website is all over the search engine results. Read this guide to get tips for keyword research: Step-by-Step Niche and Keyword Research.

Sign up for your free Squidoo account, and you can begin to build a lens.

Creating a Squidoo Lens Step-by-Step:

Pre-Design Squidoo Lens Wizard

1. You will be asked “What your Lens is About, just put in the general subject (we will change it later)

2. What’s Your Goal of your Page?: Just choose option 1 (I want to get the word out about..your subject)

3. This step is crucial: Title and URL

Title: Must have your main Keyword that you want the lens to rank for. It can have other words to make it interesting, but title must have your keywords in order to rank in SERPS in Google. The title is coded within Squidoo as the h1 title tag of an SEO Meta tag.

URL: Also must have your keywords, preferably the URL should be the same as the title. If the URL you want is unavailable (because someone else is using it) then just add some other words to it, like your name. For example, if I want Internet Marketing as my URL and it is all ready taken, I may add, Internet Marketing Secrets, or Easy Internet Marketing, etc.

Category: Make sure to pick the best possible category for your lens and rate the lens as appropriate.

4. Another crucial step – TAGS

Add Tags: tags are basically keywords or categories that are appropriate to your lens, all possible good KW that apply to your lens should be added here. The more the better. Tags will allow your lens to show up in Google for those keywords and help people to find your lens. Tip: you can add all the tags you want once you are in the “workshop” window of your Squid lens and are actually designing your lens.

Lensmaster Workshop

Now that you have set-up your lens with the wizard you will be in the Lensmaster Workshop where you can add content and design the lens.

Squidoo Lens Workshop

BIO:

Fill in the bio section with a photo (yourself or something related to your niche, you can use your website logo) and then add some content about yourself or your website, or a catchy slogan, this makes your lens personalized and gives you authority.

If you don’t do this your lens will literally say “This is my Bio, I will fit in later”…looks really lame!

Modules:

In Squidoo “modules” are sections within your lens. There are many types of modules available, including text, photo, rss feeds, comments, links..etc. (More on modules below).

Unmax your Lens:

Make sure to UNMAX your lens from the box at the bottom portion of the sidebar. This will make your lens less busy and look more attractive.

OPT Out:

Lenses can earn you a little money from ads that are automatically generated by Squidoo if you select that option within your profile settings. But, if you want a cleaner lens, you can forego the few dollars you may earn, if you select “donate all my money to charity” from your profile settings, then the “WHOOPS” box will be available to you and you can select it to OPT OUT OF DISPLAY ADS, and have less clutter on your lenses.

Here is a screenshot of Max and Whoops!

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) of the Lens:

For search engines to find and correctly rank your websites, you need to optimize certain attributes of the Meta Tags, Title <h1>, Description and Keywords, as well as the second in importance, the <h2> and <h3> tags.

In Squidoo, there is no “Meta Tags” section, but Squidoo lenses are automatically coded with Search Engine Optimization tags and so it is important to enter the relevant information correctly.

Squidoo coding for SEO:

Lens Title <h1> = Meta Tag Title

Lens Introduction Module = Meta Description

Lens Tags = Meta Keywords

Module Headers = <h2> tagged

Module Subheaders = <h3> tagged

So in order to have your lens rank in Google and stay there, make sure to fill in all of the above properly with your keywords and main subjects/points so that Google knows what your lens is about and what keywords you want to rank for.

Content/Modules for a Great Lens:

Table of Contents. Important! Select yes under table of contents from the tab under Introduction module. This will display an organized list at the top of your Squidoo lens with the titles of all your modules. Adding a table of content increases the click-through rate and navigation for visitors easier.

Create several text modules. Most Important! This is where you will add content that promotes your website. Break up your content and create several text modules, at least 5, but, the more modules, with relevant optimal headers and subheaders, the better. Make sure to use your main keywords, and a 3-5% keyword density throughout the content of the lens.

Create polaroid (picture) modules. Most Important! Add screenshots or photos that support your content at least 2 or 3.

Links module. Most Important! Linkback to your website and other helpful links and resources that related to your lens subject or website.

Comments Module. Most Important! Make sure to add a comment module, and edit the header with your own blurb, as discussed above. This way people will the opportunity to comment on your lens.

Add Del.ic.ious Bookmark Module – Make sure to select “show popular bookmarks within the module settings.

Add other Modules. Check the entire module selection, there are lots of options, and pick whatever suits your fancy. Just be sure to choose the modules that support your goal, of website promotion, don’t go overboard and choose so many that it will take focus away from your lens subject.

Once again, make sure to change the headers and subheaders, with your keywords/subjects for each of the modules (as discussed above under SEO).

Lens Design:

HTML
Squid lenses do not come with a wysiwyg builder, you have to add some html:

Basic HTML tags:
Bold- <b> </b>
Italic – <i> </i>
Hyperlink – <a href=”http://yourdomain.com”>Anchor Text</a>

For a complete guide to all HTML tags, including color please visit: Basic HTML for Squidoo

Lenses on their own are very basic, which is really okay if you don’t want to take more time on design. However, they can be tricked out with different module placement, colors, highlighted boxes, borders for content…etc. Here are some excellent and simple guides to trick out your lenses:

CSS Tricks for Squidoo Lenses | Basic HTML for Squidoo
Advanced HTML for SquidooMy favorite! Get code for background color and borders.
Bulleted and Ordered List in SquidooMy favorite!

Remember: Make your lens yours, add lots of modules, information and design tweaks to create a user-friendly information filled lens page.

Promoting Squidoo Lenses for Maximum Exposure:

These steps are crucial in getting the maximum exposure and visitors for your lenses, and these will also help your lens get ranked in Google.

1. Add your lens to as many Squidoo groups as possible (based on subject), there are tons of them for all subjects, and there are also groups that take any lens.

2. Do lens link exchanges (lensrolls) with other relevant lenses. Just select lensroll icon on the sidebar of the other lens and then select which of your lenses you want to lensroll with from a dropdown box, the link exchange is then added automatically by Squidoo.

3. Lensroll all your lenses with each other. In Squidoo this is easily done by selecting lensroll from your admin area and then selecting the lenses you want to roll with from a drop down menu.

4. Add your lenses to these Squidoo Directories and Search Engines:

Squoogle | Squid Directory | Isle of Squid | BUMPzee! | Scrub the Web | Gigablast| Yahoo | MSN | Google | Lensroll.com | SurfGopher | SquidLink

5. Write some articles and point them to your lenses.

6. Social bookmark your lenses, especially the do-follow social sites (see list) all over the place.

I know this may sound overwhelming, but once you build a couple of lenses it really becomes a piece of cake.

Now, go and Squidoo :)

There are many ways to work from home, such as, work from home with online surveys, which really can only make some pocket change and there is work from home with direct sales, which involves customer interaction. If you want to build an online business, that can provide a passive income then Affiliate marketing is a great way to go.

The most common venue for Affiliate Marketing is to build a website which focuses around a niche. Prior to actually doing Internet marketing, it
important to make sure and to the proper research for optimal success.

WHAT IS A NICHE?

Basically a niche is a certain segment of the population where you intend to concentrate your efforts.

Some examples of niches include:

Golf, Skiing, Health, Computers, Real Estate, Insurance, Video Games, Stamp Collecting… as well as the sub categories or Micro Niches within the major categories.

For example within the macro Computer category there are several micro niches which include, desktop PC’s, laptops, printers, routers etc.

Within the health field there are again thousands of smaller niches including acne treatment, hair loss, insomnia, weight loss, etc.

You can also go deeper into the micro niche with a double micro niche. For example, the weight loss niche. Weight loss is a huge business, and within the niche of weight loss you can dig deeper into niches like fat burning foods, low carb diets, natural weight loss supplements..etc. Digging deep into micro niches will further cut through the competition factor and yield optimal results. There are thousands of untapped micro niche markets and the opportunities are endless. And there are affiliate programs for every possible niche.

Finding a Niche

There are 3 main factors that should influence what niche you are getting into.

1. Consider your interest and expertise.

This is important. It is a well known fact that in today’s Internet environment the content of a website can make it or break it. Believe me there is lots of work involved with creating a successful affiliate business and many other tasks involved with making money online and if you can avoid adding research of an unknown niche in order to create good content on your site then it is best to do so.

When I first started in this business my first site was about computers, a subject that I knew a little about but not nearly enough to create content with ease. I spent a lot of time on researching material in order to write content for my site, all though this has turned out to be a profitable site and is a very profitable niche, it made my job more difficult.

All I am saying is that if you pick a niche you know and even better have a lot of interest in then that takes a lot of burden off the process.

2. Check out the competition for a niche

This is crucial to your success. As I mentioned earlier there are macro and micro niches. In todays highly competitive Internet Marketing stage it is often best to go into the micro niches that have enough user demand and at the same time do not yield millions of search results in Google. ( I will reference Google as opposed to other search engines, which is not to say that the others are less important, but Google is the leading used search engine on the web today)

3. Is your niche profitable and is there a demand?

Obviously you do not want to build a niche site if no one will be searching for that niche or the products you are promoting within it. You need visitors and sales in order to make commissions, so evaluating the demand is an important element of finding a niche.

Micro Niche Finder Tool is a great tool that can help you find niches, it is not free but it can save time and provide comprehensive and excellent niche information.

Some great free tools to see what the hot searches on the web are:Google Trends and My Simon Top Product/Service Searches.

Also you want to get a feel for hot items within the niche and what people are talking about and buying, here are some ways to do this:

1. Read Industry BlogsSearch in Google by entering “blog + your niche” Check out the top blogs in your niche.

For example, If you are going for a gadget/tech niche you can visit Engadget and Gizmodo.

2. Go to relevant ForumsSearch for “forums + your niche”

See what people are talking about within your niche on the top forums. Find out who the customers are, what they want, what they need, what are they looking for, hat are their biggest fears and difficulties etc…

There are lots of forums and blogs for many niches.

How to gage competition and find what people are searching for:

KEYWORDS! As an affiliate marketer this is a word that you will eat, sleep and have nightmares about, it is at the center of your efforts as your sites will revolve around keywords.

A keyword is a word or phrase used to focus an online search. When people search for something online the words they input into the search engine are keywords, which then yield relevant website results for those keywords in the search results.

For example, computer is a keyword and cheap desktop computers is a long-tail keyword, which simply means it is a phrase and not just one word.

Niches and Keywords are synonymous. Simply put, if my niche is laptops then my keywords will revolve around laptops, keywords are just how the niches are searched for by Internet users. I wish someone had explained this to me clearly when I was a newbie, because this can be confusing.

Keywords competition research

How to find good keywords:

Keyword tools are crucial for affiliate marketing campaigns as they will determine the competition as well as the numbers of people searching for those KW which will determine demand. Your can optimize your affiliate websites to revolve around several good keywords, and then the different pages will show up in different search results for their respective keywords.

I use and highly recommend Keyword Elite and SEOBook Free Keyword Research Tool. Wordtracker also has a free keyword tool that is less comprehensive but is a good product at: Free Keywords at Wordtracker.

Also, Google Keywords Tool, now shows numbers of searches and can also be used to get keyword ideas.

One thing I should tell you is that the results maybe different in all of these tools. I usually use a combination of these tools to check the numbers. Most of my successful keywords have come from Keyword Elite and SEOBook Free Keyword Tool. These tools are meant to be suggestive, to my knowledge there is no tool that exists that gives precise numbers as to what people are searching for. If you can create a tool like that, you will be a millionaire for sure :-) !

Step-By-Step Steps to Building an Affiliate Marketing Website:

Step 1. Keyword/Niche Research:

My niche will be laptop computers and I will use laptops as my main keyword:

Go To: SEOBook Free Keyword Research Tool

Enter the word laptops into the search box

Here are the results showing what people are searching for daily in all 2 major search engines:

SEOBook Keyword search results for affiliate marketing niche research

Now do a Google search and enter allintitle:”laptops” (The reason for the allintitle and quotes is this narrows the results to true competition of websites that actually have that KW as the title and theme of their site as opposed to just a mention somewhere within their content.)

The keyword tool shows 3,210 searches per day and Google shows the competition as 7,500,000 sites! That is way too competitive, especially since there are big big guns within the laptop niche.

BUT if you look further down the list of the keyword tool you will see the longtail KW – gaming laptops.

The keyword “gaming laptops” has a daily search of 265 and Google search results shows a competition of only 7,350 sites. THAT is a great keyword, a great niche and can be very profitable. (Note: If you are reading this and your results are different for the example KW I am using. results can vary and are based on people’s searches and number of websites in the Google index at the time of research)

Look for relevant targeted KW for conversions:

Look further down the list of those search results in the KW tool and you will see “cheap laptop computers” now that KW has 430 searches per day and only 4,540 results in Google so the competition is VERY low for that KW.

Also, that is a great keyword because it is targeted for sales, for example, “laptops” is very broad and could mean people are just searching for any information about laptops or just surfing the web. But, people searching for “cheap laptop computers” are probably looking to purchase laptop computers which will more likely convert to sales.

Choosing relevant targeted keyword, like those with begin with buy, purchase, cheap etc. are KW that are better targeted for sales and conversions.

Two Keyword Guidelines:

1. I strongly recommend, especially when starting out that you find keywords that are under 500,000 in competition results and have at least 10,000 searches daily across all search engines (but you really want to have as many searches as possible) for ALL keywords you will be using on your site combined. This method will allow you to rank higher and quicker in search results (serps- search engine page results) as opposed to higher competition keywords.

This process can get you ranked higher faster in Search Engine Page Results (SERPS). See that first position which is on first page of search results? That is every Internet Marketers dream! Obviously if your websites show up on the first page of search results, you will get more visitors than if you are on page 5.

Please note: Each keyword has it’s own daily search numbers and so when you combine the daily searches of all your keywords you should have 10,000 or more (this includes home page and sub page keywords).

Affiliate Marketing Keyword SERPS results in Google

2. Choose keywords that are relevant and targeted for sales. Find and use relevant targeted keywords and this way you get readers who are PRESOLD and looking for whatever your product or service you are promoting and those visitors are much more likely to turn into sales and commissions for you.

Repeat the above process for any niche/keyword you wish and for every site new affiliate marketing niche site.

Step 2: Buying a Domain

You will now need to buy a domain for your website. I recommend buying domains from All Cheap Web, they have cheap prices and great service. Dot Com domains go for about $6.95 per year. With cheaper prices for .net and .info. By the way, there is really no significant difference between .com and .net or .info domains, but I prefer .com, only because I think it is optimal for people remembering your site URL.

The best technique for SERPS is using your keyword in the domain. This is not necessary to rank for the keyword but it makes it a lot easier. For example if your main keyword is “cheap laptop computers” then you can try for cheaplaptopcomputers.com, but I can tell you that that domain is all ready taken, so you can add more words to the main keyword like, buycheaplaptopcomputers.com or joescheaplaptopcomputers.com, etc.

Step 3. Hosting:

Once you have purchased a domain you need to get a hosting account. I have used several hosting companies and now I only use Host Gator. Hostgator is the best web site hosting company. They have almost zero downtime, their service is impeccable and their prices can’t be beat. Hosting will run you $9.99/month ($7.99 if you pay a year upfront) for unlimited number of domains.

Get first month of hosting for 1 CENT at Host Gator. Enter coupon code, wordpress, 1 cent is all you will pay at checkout, the $9.99 monthly hosting fees will begin the second month of service.

Step 4. Choose a Website Builder

Now comes the fun part. Building the affiliate marketing niche site. There are several options available for this and I will direct this towards those of us who have no technical web building knowledge, have no clue about HTML code and no interest in learning.

The easiest way to build a website is to use a WYSIWYG website builder. What is a WYSIWYG? WYSIWYG is an acronym that simply translates to “What You See Is What You Get” commonly used for word processing programs and website builders that allow the user to type in the information and see it on the screen as it will look live without entering code.

WYSIWYG Website Builders are best because you design your website by typing in content from your keyboard (in English, not HTML), adding designs, colors, pictures, e-commerce AND see your website instantly on the screen as it will be when it is live and published!! HTML and all design codes are configured automatically!

The two WYSIWYG website builders I have used and recommend are Webeasy 7 Pro and CoffeeCup HTML Editor.

They both build beautiful sites easily and quickly and both are search engine friendly. Webeasy 7 Pro includes automatic settings for product feeds for the Amazon affiliate program and Coffee Cup has a member user forum and the most amazing support, you call an 800 number and a living human answers the phone! Ho holding!

Here is a screenshot from Webeasy 7 Admin Builder Panel:

Webeasy Affiliate Website builder

I also use Build a Niche Store (BANS), which is the eBay Affiliate Website Builder. I highly recommend this software as it allows anyone to build great sites quickly and easily, and because eBay has so many product categories the possibilities are endless and you can build unlimited stores.

You can learn more and get all the details about BANS at my post: Review of Build a Niche Store

You can also use the free WordPress Software to build a site or a blog. I built this blog with WordPress and while it is not completely stress free you can’t beat the price (free)! There are thousands of themes available for download and it is very easy to optimize WordPress for search engines.

Also WordPress is very easy to install with Host Gator, it comes as part of their “extra features” and literally takes seconds to download and add to your hosting account.

Step 5. Build your Website and Content

Content! Content! Content! Just like keywords, content is something that must become the center of your affiliate marketing campaigns and what you will spend most of your time on (and may have nightmares about eventually).

A huge factor in your success in building a user-friendly website that will keep your visitors on your site. Landing Pages and Headlines and Welcomes are essential for visitor retention, follow the links and read the guides.

I can’t say this enough – content is crucial in the highly competitive Internet world. Just having a website with affiliate links will not cut it. You have to provide a reason for someone to visit your site over the thousands of other sites that are available, you need a hook and the hook is valuable, information rich, original content.

Also search engines place a lot of weight on content and rate the quality of your site based on content, which is good for SERPS.

For example, if your website is built around golfing. You will want to have at least 6 pages of content about the subject. How-to guides, tutorials, golfing techniques, best places to golf, etc… are some examples of content.

Write content with your visitors in mind, make it so they find your content invaluable, and they will become customers for life.

A good affiliate marketing strategy is to check out your top competing sites and see what they have and make it better. This is where knowing your niche and having interest in it comes in really handy. If you know nothing about golf, building those pages will be difficult.

One thing I noticed about the big gun sites is that they are loaded with information, sometimes too much, where you have to sift through tons of stuff and ads pasted all over the place to find the information you are looking for, and they usually only use the broad KW discussed previously and not the narrow micro KW.

You can use this to your advantage, I am sure that there are many people like me, who enjoy landing on a website that is user-friendly and not so “big” that it takes an hour to find what I am looking for.

So, one of the best affiliate marketing strategies for a highly competitive niche is to make your site “homey”, a “mom and pop type of site”, that is centered around a micro niche as opposed to some large “department store type of site” that has a macro broad niche. And with a micro niche you can focus on that micro content and not have to digress into huge amounts of different information. Make sense? Get tons of ideas for website content at my post Affiliate Marketing – 16 Website Content Ideas.

Keywords for Content Pages:

It is important to choose your keywords for every page of content as well as your overall (homepage) keywords because it is not only the home page of your site, but each page of your website that will be indexed by Google and once again, you want the most searched relevant targeted keywords for those pages.

For example, My main keyword is gaming laptops and my niche is gaming laptops and I write a content page that is a guide to buying a gaming laptop. I will once again research the keywords regarding gaming laptop guide that is most searched for and has the least competition.

I will go back to my Keyword Research Tools and enter the keyword gaming laptops, or guide to gaming laptops, you can try different variations to get the best results and find the best KW for this and every page of content you write.

Step 6. Choose an Affiliate Program

It is time to decide on which affiliate program you will choose. Here is a list of the top affiliate programs with tons of merchants with whom you can partner as an affiliate. You can browse the merchants and commission details after you join a program. Even though they ask for your website information when you sign up, if you don’t have it yet you can leave it blank and still get approved so that you could access the member sections.

Once you join an affiliate program you will be able to access product links in various ways, such as RSS feeds, banners and links to place in your site.

Choose affiliate products related to your site niche/theme. For example, if your niche is golfing, then the banners and products you recommend on your site, should be golfing related.

You can also add some Google Adsense ads to your site. Google Adsense is a Pay Per Click affiliate program that automatically generates ads on your site that are related to your content. Google pays you a certain amount, depending on the niche, for every click (no sale necessary, just the click) that your visitors make.

Make sure these do not overtake your content, but pepper them around the content of your site.

You can also search online for affiliate programs, “keyword + affiliate program” or go directly to a merchant’s website. The affiliate page links are usually listed in the footer.

Step 7. Set-Up Pertinent Analysis Accounts:

Now that you are done with the building portion of the website you will need to set up some analysis tools. All of these are free.

With Google Tools, you use the same user name and password to access all your tools. Sign up for your main account first here: Google Accounts, and then you can log in to access the other tools, including Adsense.

Here is a detailed review of BANS, which stands for “Build A Niche Store” and it is a website builder which enables you to create an Internet Based Affiliate Marketing niche websites focused around the eBay Affiliate Program.

What I love about BANS is that is EASY to build stores and it is different from other website builders, BANS is really a business builder because it has many tools that do not come with regular website software, such as a members forum, affiliate marketing guides and more.

As an eBay affiliate your aim is to connect Internet surfers with relevant eBay products and your BANS built niche stores are the venue through which you can achieve this. And, because eBay is an established, world known and widely used site this is a great Affiliate Program which does not need a hard sell.

As I have mentioned before making money online these days is not so easy and you should take advantage of any edge that’s out there. BANS gives several edges, and while my aggressive Internet Marketing Strategies had a big hand in these earnings, BANS had a big part as well.

The edges BANS gave me was time and marketing support. I did not want to spend a ton of time building sites from scratch and with BANS I was able to build great sites quickly and easily. Also there is the BANS member forum where all topics related to BANS, Internet and Affiliate Marketing are discussed from building BANS stores to getting traffic.

BANS is SEO friendly and adding META TAGS to every page is easy, as well as creating seo friendly url’s for every page.

You can also use the auto Meta Tags feature, where BANS automatically places your META TAGS based on your store’s niche theme but I do NOT recommend this technique as I am a true believer in finding your own good keywords for every page for optimal Search Engine Optimization results.

You edit the content with colors, bolds, italics, add images and hyper-links and what you see in the editor is how your content page will actually look on your live site!
