The writing has been on the wall for some time that mobile devices are the future of marketing. Well, the future is here and there’s no better time than now for businesses everywhere to take advantage of the synergy that can be achieved with marketing campaigns and handhelds. That’s because more and more people are using their smartphones to go online and access information than even desktop or laptop computers. And the vessels that deliver this information to the mobile user are mobile applications.
So, here is the list of mobile apps any modern marketer worth his or her salt shouldn’t be without.
EVERNOTE
Just as a on-the-go consumers have gravitated to mobile devices for the overall convenience, so to have marketers. And when a new campaign idea hits, it isn’t always in the office during the hours of 9-5. Evernote is a mobile note pad that is ideal for marketers, as it lets them jot down that next great lead-generation idea no matter the locale. Users can type and organize notes on the street, the subway platform, wherever. The best part is that Evernote automatically syncs and update’s the users notes.
DROPBOX
This app is a must for anyone who spends their working day in collaboration with others, as many marketers often do. Dropbox is a simple computer app with mobile versions that creates a file on a hard drive. Users can then fill this file with data – much more than can be sent through email – and share the file folder with anyone on their team.
GODOCS
This is a mobile app available for iPhone and Android that works in conjunction with Google Documents. It allows people who aren’t at their computers to quickly and easily access their Google Doc files. The app sorts all of these documents by recent activity and presents the most recent on screen for user access. The app can even display spreadsheet documents including all of the tabs.
TRELLO
Trello is another collaborative app geared towards team management. The app assigns a “board” for each team member, and on this board members can list completed and pending tasks. Team members can also assign tasks and give deadlines to others as well as list the priority status of said tasks. Users can also create checklists and track progress.
HOOTSUITE
Another fact of modern marketing is that social media reigns supreme. Those businesses without a strong social media presence can count on little to no growth in the future. To this end it is important for all marketers to not only establish this presence but maintain it as well. That’s where HootSuite comes in. HootSuite is a social media dashboard app that allows marketers to manage all facets of their social media world. They can make posts, monitor activity and manage multiple accounts at once. The app also provides analytics that point the user in the right direction as far as increasing followers and page clicks.
GOTOMEETING
This is another app available for iPhone and Android. It allows the user to call into a meeting or access a webinar and even displays the presenter’s screen prominently. This allows anyone to not just hear what’s going on in the meeting, but to see all the visuals as well.
These are just a few of the most popular apps currently on the market geared towards helping mobile users keep track of important documents and data. And the fact that mobile technology allows for users to control all aspects of their social media accounts or remotely attend meetings means that marketers now can do their jobs from virtually anywhere in the world.

I have been using Hootsuite to manage my social media accounts, but I did not know they had a mobile app, will check that out, thanks!
@ James
Hi James, yes you should check it out, I love HootSuite too, the app is really great.
GoToMeeting is one of the best resources for webinars so I am sure their app is top notch, thanks for the list.
@ Craymer
I agree, GoToMeeting is great.
Thanks for the great list, JR do you think it’s possible to succeed in online business today without having a mobile ready website?
@ Susan,
Hi Susan, thanks for visiting. No, I think it’s imperative that all sites be mobile ready, there is too much traffic to miss out upon without it.

Rightly pointed out, JR. A mobile-friendly approach is enormously important. A website that isn’t optimized for the mobile is going to be outwitted by a ton of other websites that are.
