There is only one thing that is certain about making money online and Internet marketing and that is that things can change at any time. Affiliate accounts get canceled, campaigns fail and do not produce the results we want, affiliate programs close, software we love stops being supported, venues come and go, etc. As marketers it is important that we learn to role with the punches, not put all our eggs in one basket and be flexible and rugged enough to handle changes that are both within and beyond our control. And most important never give up on reaching our goals.
Many newbies who begin the make money online venture have the misconception that buckets of cash will start to roll in droves 3 months after they launch a website. WRONG! This does not happen, as it takes hands-on experience, time, dedication and effort to make money online. Most of those newbies will not wait to see the magic happen as they will give up before it possibly can.
If you think that the big online successes like Jeremy Shoemaker (Shoemoney), Courtney Tuttle, or John Chow just to name a few, made their big online bucks in their first month or even first year online, think again!
In fact, if you have ever read about John’s or Jeremy’s history at all, you will know that they struggled to make even a dime in their initial years, especially Jeremy. And John, who was actually there when the whole Internet thing came to be, lived through and survived the infamous Internet crash, BUT, neither had given up and both now enjoy enormous wealth and the fruits of their labor.
Failed campaigns are another bone of contention that can trigger defeat and marketers to give up. It is something all of us have either dealt with or will deal with in the future. One of the keys to success in this business is perseverance and faith. And a true acceptance of the fact that some campaigns will fail, not all will make us money, or make us famous, whatever your goal online maybe.
This is why it is crucial to adjust goals and venues as needed to reach that ultimate goal of financial independence and to be free of the 9 to 5. I think overall that is the ultimate goal for all of us.
Putting your eggs in one basket online is not the safest or best idea and can be self defeating in the end. We have to diversify our campaigns, look to different monetization venues and options, build more sites once we feel comfortable with the process and press forward no matter what.
In reality, to me there is no failure online, as I learn from each and every one of my ventures, whether they reach their goals or not. In fact, I truly believe that the failures I have experienced were my biggest teachers. Many times learning what doesn’t work and what not to do can be the biggest propellers to success.
So press on no matter what, and do not let negativity, feelings of defeat, common changes and failures deter you from your goals!
Success will happen, with the correct knowledge, hard work, patience and faith, you will reach your goals, convince yourlself of that, follow the correct techniques and your half way there! The make money online business is a viable, real and credible venture and one that has an unlimited amount of potential.
I truly believe that and I hope this helps those of you who maybe feeling like giving up now or in the future.
What do you guys think? Anyone ever felt like giving up? How do you deal with failures online?

Blogging for money is quite a long road, its takes a lot of dedication and hard work. Most self sufficient blogger will quit within the first 6 months, once they fail to see money coming in, they don’t know it wasn’t as easy as they made it out to be. Nothing good in life is easily attained!

Great post JR. The part about “In reality, to me there is no failure online, as I learn from each and every one of my ventures, whether they reach their goals or not.” Is absolutely true. You can never stop learning win or lose. Experience is what gets you to the finish line. Read other peoples blogs. Learn as much as possible. You better believe John Chow and Jeremy are still learning. Blogging is a long road. It takes money to make money. If you want it fast, learn PPC. But know what you’re doing first.

Thanks for contributing Jonathan. PPC is something I am looking forward too, would love to avoid SEO work, but you are so right, PPC is so tricky and needs to learned properly.

Thanks for the great pep talk, JR. This is something we all need to print out and stick on the nearest flat, vertical surface above our laptops! Diversify. Keep your head down and keep moving forward, no matter what. Learn from your mistakes and never give up. Sooner or later, we’ll enjoy the success that comes from hard work, not get rich quick!

Oops, I guess my vibe meter was a little off. These posts usually surface directly following a catastrophe averted. lol

It takes a LONG long time to start earning money from blogs…but once you get there the cash will come rolling in droves
The main difference between people the people that make it big and the ones that go home with their tail in between their legs isn’t skills/talent, it’s perseverance.
I mean, sure, you can be smarter than your competition, but if you give up and they don’t then THEY will succeed. Not you.
Great post, all beginners should read this before they start out.

Terrific article, JR. I’ve failed in the past with various businesses, but I’ve learned a lot that I have been able to use with new ventures. As you said, it’s all about how you perceive failure because to some it’s not actually failing, it’s just a step in the learning process.
There have been times where I’ve felt like giving up, but nothing great is ever achieved by throwing in the towel. I would rather fail giving it everything I have, than to simply give up and not even try.
I think it says a lot about one’s character when they can face a challenge head-on and do everything in their power to overcome it, rather than taking the easy way out and admitting defeat.

Hey JR,
That may sound pessimistic, but I am not. I release myself from the need to know it all – if I did, I would be dead. PS. Sure is nice to have folks like you help point the rest of us along the way.
In fact, in business in general what you say is true. We do all we can, what is in our control and be flexible enough to work with what we can’t control. I find my ignorance is the most frustrating aspect – that online techniques and technology are such a huge learning curve that I am bound to keep messing up something.

I had the quitting blood drained out of my system a long time ago.
Though it does help to walk away and take a break in this
internet world. Here is what I did that led me to the headwaters of
success. First let me quote an old one, “not all readers are leaders
but all leaders are readers.” So my advice to people in the last two years after throwing away thousands of dollars and wasting more
hours than I care to admit here ya go……….. read, read, read , read,
read, take a break and then read. And then open your wallet very
slowly. O.K. So what do you read. Well, I have a huge list. This blog for
starters. But here’s a clue. Go to the leaders blogs out there, go to the bottom of the page, find out who designed their stuff. Trace headwaters. Go to NYTimes, same process, go to the bottom and
trace who is doing their stuff.

Thank you for you quality comment, and sharing your experience.
Very inspirational read! Two important lessons I have learned is you have to be completely honest with yourself and your goals AND you have to exhibit extreme patience. Be honest in setting your goals; son;t settle for less that what you really want. Realize money will not be made overnight, but rather over several months – if not years.
