Happy Thanksgiving Everybody! I hope you all have a great holiday and eat lots of great food!
On the make money online note, I want to remind everyone of something that is easy to forget…
If you have several sites in your Internet marketing portfolio it is easy to lose track and get too buys and therefore neglect opportunities that are all ready exist.
Take a look at all your sites and how they are monetized. I recently realized that through all the busy work I had overlooked monetizing content pages on a store site I have with any ads. I added Adsense to the site, which has lots and lots of inner content pages, and this site earned $40.50 in the last week from clicks on those ads.
Monetization is an ongoing adventure, all in all testing and experimenting with different affiliate ads, links, banners and venues is the best way to keep the site’s earning potential at it’s optimum.
Often times we focus too much on home pages and neglect all the inner pages of the site that gets traffic from search engines. And remember the more inner pages you have the more traffic potential and the more money you can make from clicks on Adsense or other monetazation venues.
So, check sites that you may have forgotten and all the inner pages on those sites that you have not looked at in some time. They could be making you money, even if it’s a dollar a day in Adsense, that’s an extra $30 per site per month

I hope I can get to monetize my internal pages sometimes. I’m still learning SEO techniques and how to organize a good internal linking, so it might take a while. Thanks for the tips though!

Hi JR,
I think that what works even better than adsense is some actual humans to sell your leads to. At $6 a lead I make wayyyyy more than adsense!
Recently, I have looked at 2 of my pages (one is about covert hypnosis, and another one is about feminization hypnosis) and added products there and removed the adsense ads. In 6 days I made 236$ from affiliate programs. The temp stopped now, but anyway, it seems to be effective and I ‘m still thinking to work on monetization of inner pages.

Very good point, J.R., thanks for the reminder. Have you used adsense for domains? I just discovered it- another passive way to make money online with domains that I own but hadn’t monetized for one reason or another.
Hope you had a happy Thanksgiving!

I have Adsense on all my sites, I usually just a place a couple of ad blocks on each page, makes money all the time. I also wait for the site to age a bit for it to get Search Engine traffic before placing Adsense, the ads get more clicks and more money per click is made since Adsense pays more for SE traffic, they prefer those.
@JR, I was taking about adsense on domains that aren’t built out. Like I have some domains that I’ve never done anything with so I use adsense for domains on them. You point your nameservers to Google and it shows ads on your unused domains instead of the page that says “website under construction”. Not a lot of money but a little bit, anyway. Especially if you’re using a low competition high demand keyword in your domain. Hope that makes sense.

Great article JR! I agree, being able to torque your AdSense revenue can add up fast. I for one removed all borders and blend in my ads into my site’s existing text color scheme and I have seen improved results.
This is a really good point worth mentioning. Take the time to redirect traffic to a profitable site if its not producing where it is.

I hope I am not missing out also. I add adsense to my sites only when I get good serps. If I don’t get good serps, I feel having adsense on a blog reduces the CTR.

@Eau Parfum,
You are totally right about that, and Adsense pays best for SE traffic.
I currently don’t place Adsense or other advertising on my site. I had thought about putting Amazon ads to how-to books and other relevant items that relate to my site, but NC decided to tax Amazon’s internet sales in this state so Amazon canceled all affiliates accounts in this state.
My concern is advertising one of my competitors on my site.

That tax thing is really a big issue, sorry to hear that it passed in NC. California skated by this time because the Gov vetoed it, but we suspect it will come up again.
As far as competitors go that could be an issue, but you should test Adsense for a while and see if you can increase your earnings.
I usually don’t mix up monetization methods because I don’t want to lose valuable clicks, but I may be wrong, I need to test this more.

I have found that adsense on my site reduces the click throughs of my affiliate links, but I have only been testing this for about 60 days so not definitive yet.

@peter
This is a fact, on my shopping sites, like BANS, there is a definite corelation between click throughs on Adsense and sales of products. Some days, when there are a lot of clicks on Adsense, the ebay sales are down and then in reverse on other days.
It is hard to predict whether those who click on Adsense are disinterested in the products, or the Adsense is actually diverting their attention. Either way I am making more money with Adsense than without, especially on the written content pages that SE traffic lands on.
Thanks buddy your tips are worthy ..it can solve some real problems ,,, nice job
Its true because internet marketing is constantly changing.. Maybe the one method that used to make us $30 per day can only make us $.3 now.
Testing is really essential
@Peter: I have observed the same thing too. I’ve separated the two from then on. I would assume this has to do with giving the visitor more options. On the one hand you got adsense, and on the other you have like CB products that’s gonna take your potential customer away from your site. Take a look if your site/page is optimized for Adsense or the other. It would be best IMO to separate the two.
I think that what works even better than adsense is some actual humans to sell your leads to.

I didn’t know that inner pages are so important. I always thought that only the main page matters. Thanks for the tip.
I blog as a hobby and recently decided that I should join what so many bloggers are doing, and that is to monetize their blogs. When you say inner pages that would mean your blog posts, right? Also what would be best for starters like me, Adsense or Affiliate Ads? Thanks!

@Webbhotell,
Welcome to the club! Yes inner pages means the individual post page pages. I would go for both Adsense and a couple of affiliate banners that are related to your blog subject. Test different placement for the ads to see what works best, especially for Adsense.
In my experience Adsense works best within the actual post content like floating left or right of the post content itself.
The code to float ads is YOUR ADSENSE CODE HERE. You can change the left to either right or center.
Another good spot for those ads is right after the post to give people something to click on after they read your content. Sidebar’s are okay for Adsense as well. Just test it out.
Make sure the ads blend well into your content, with matching font and colors. The link colors in the ads should be the same as the link colors on the rest of your blog.
It’s also important to note that to earn the most from Adsense you should have the majority of your traffic coming from the search engines. Adsense pays the most per click for organic traffic.
Then keep adding content, and build ranks for your individual pages. The more content you have ranking in the SERPS, the more money you will make from clicks.
Good luck
This is a really good point JR but I think that if you aren’t keeping track of your websites than you probably need to be more organized, especially if that is YOUR money. A tip: get a spread sheet going.. put your sites, investments, passwords, ect. on an excel and make a mental note to go down the list of your spread sheet once a month. Its great for managing your sites, and money.

Great tips, thanks!
Adsense is a good way to generate passive income. My friend got around $100 each month from adsense.

Because of the value of monetizing, but how many hate the ads, the new compromise is to monetize only internal content pages older than 15 days using some wordpress wizardy/hack. I think this is a great compromise for keeping ads off of homepages, while still making the blog self-supporting.

Just my grain of salt about Google Adsense….in my opinion it doesn’t work anymore. Used to make a lot but while my traffic is the same…my income has dropped about 100 fold, Google is getting greedy!
I really don’t understand how people still make money with Adsense…I have a 700 pages website full of content and it make peanuts…mind you the content comes from Yahoo group article directories…but still gets traffic but no conversion.

Well making money with Adsense can be tricky, there are some quidelines that need to be followed, such as primarily SE traffic, ad placement and other considerations.
Well said content is king the more content the better. Also make your website, or blo look somewhat appealing like you were saying. Play around with your affiliate ads, or banners to see which is producing the best results for you, and stick with it.

I just started a blog and this is great advice. I haven’t had the chance to monetize the blog yet but I’ll be sure to keep this in mind once I do. Thanks! But I do agree with the comment above that it’s hard to get profits from Adsense that’s why it’s not one of my priorities as of the meantime.

Thank you and thank you for the comment. I agree that Adsense is not always right for everyone, but those sites that are making very little, are usually not targeting the right traffic(which should be organic), or do not have enough of it, or the ad placement is off. Usually these are the reasons for low Adsense earnings.
I wasn’t aware it was possible to put Adsense on just certain pages.

Of course, you can add the code into single posts.php and then it will only appear in the posts. I have a plugin where you can designate when those ads will show up by time, so I have it set to show the ads only on older posts, this way my readers don’t see them, but future search traffic does.
There is also a plugin that hides it from everyone except search engine visitors…can you link me to your plugin?
