While browsing the SERPS the other day, I noticed this blog showed a PR0 in the toolbar, out of nowhere! It has been a PR3 for at least 10 months and I am not sure what is up!
Spoke with some other webmasters who also had loses of PR in the last few days. I do not think this is a general PR update, but either a glitch or they are penalizing me for something, like selling links, which is funny because I have never sold a link in my life!
I really could care less about PR since the site still ranks Page 1 for it’s main keywords and for many inner pages and that is all that really matters, as it should be since I think I provide enough useful content and therefore have been lucky enough to get lots of natural links to this blog. But it is curious.
The SERPS are still wacked as I discussed in May-June SERPS shakeups and some of my sites are bouncing around page 5-7 on an almost hourly basis.
There is definitely an update or some tweaking going on with Google, that will hopefully end this month. Though veteran webmasters that I have talked with say that they have seen similar activity in the past and it could last thru the summer.
Interesting SERP Observations from other Webmasters:
For the keywords I watch:
Time Will Tell
I personally think that links are being devalued and especially older links that are of low quality.
But, no one ever really knows what is going on with Google, as intended, all we could do is ensure that we have good content and quality links, everything else is a crap shoot and we’ll have to wait and see.

I can picture some geek engineers at Google sitting at THE BUTTON in some office and laughing their asses off reading posts like this as they send our sites to Google hell — hey you gotta laugh at times like these!
Anybody else having issues with SERPS or notice any PR changes in the toolbar?

Yes you have got a zero PageRank now…
I understand what you are saying about why you are not worried about losing PR but that would freak me out as I would quickly jump to the conclusion that I’ve been penalized by Google.
Do have any links to going out to bad neighbourhoods like malware sites? Just a thought.
AndyWs last blog post..Drupal modules that look useful
@AndyW,
Well considering that this is dofollow blog and I do not check every url of the commenter, then yes it is possible. But, not for any sites I linked to in the posts, only possible via comments
@JR,
I noticed though that you have an old and insecure version of WordPress – 2.7.1.
You should make sure you keep on top of these things of some nasty person will do a link injection attack
AndyWs last blog post..The Suburban Glory Directory Has Been Launched
@AndyW,
I checked for that yesterday and checked all the comment links and deleted a couple of old spam comments as well, the blog is clean
@AndyW,
Also, loss of PR happens a lot for even the biggest sites so I am not that freaked out, like I said as long as the SERPS hold.
I use a great keyword tool every week they’ll email you your rankings on the keywords you choose, example pg 1 on google pg 4 on yahoo and 6 on bing, you’ll be able to compare where you were and see the changes, I think this can be a usefull tool http://www.rockinseo.com.
I know I like to see if my main keywords Im trying to rank for are working or declining, Like you said Page Rank don’t mean crap to me, I just want to be on pg 1.

Here in my niche, one of my competitors has a PR of “0″, yet he continues to reside at the top of organic SERP— right next to my site! This just proves that PR is meaningless, as long as you have the proper KW and SEO going on!
@Matt
Yes I see that all the time
@JR, That is really great thought.
I’ve had some sites see great results in the recent shift; though others haven’t budged at all.

I know people who’d be devastated over this. And I mean it, I wouldn’t be surprised if they cried and stayed at home for the next 3 weeks. Good thing you don’t take PR that seriously.

@Odzysk Danych,
I know a lot of people take PR way too seriously
So sorry to hear that JR, my blog PR is still remaining the same right now. As for SERPS, it’s still in the first page for the keyword “Make Money Online”. Anyway, we really don’t know what Google is doing on their sides, what we can do is writing great content and enjoy the blogging life. As long as we have loyal readers, it’s not a big deal anymore, right?

Lee
@Lee
Yes, I am not worried about PR, and I think it’s just a glitch anyway. Thanks for the support.
@JR, I think so. Anyway, don’t too worry about it, it will come back to normal in some days.

@Lee
The PR I’m not worried about at all.
Two of my sites are back to page 1 in SERPS today, so hopefully the update is over.
@JR, That’s great! I don’t see any improvement on my optimized keyword as well, I hope that my blog could get into Top 5.

Lee
Make Money Onlines last blog post..Poll : How Many Blog Do You Own And Manage?
@Make Money Online,
The SERPS are f’ed up all over the place, I keep getting .uk sites for all my searches and lots of SPAM crap.
Hi JR,
Sorry to hear about your problems. I have noticed some weird things also. For example if I have two sites based on the same keywords one day the first will get all kinds of hits and the second almost nothing and then the next day it reverses. It would be enough to pull out my hair if I had any.

@Agrande
How are they ranking?
When google first became a major player, there WAS more of a connection between pr and serp position. But the connection is actually less now because their algo has continually evolved.
I like your attitude about pagerank and to obsess about what Google is doing prevents you from what you should be doing. Thanks for the info.

@James
You are so right, there is so much to do and obsessing about page rank is a ridiculous waste of time.
I think your blog is not penalize by Google. I think it is because of you loss some of your links. However I seen your Alexa ranking are still below top 100k. That’s amazing.
Ruri@Free article submissions last blog post..Chinese Letter Tattoos Have A Mythical Asian History
@Ruri
Yeah that is why ranking in SERPS is the most important thing, when you have lots of pages at the top you can get lots of traffic, and PR does not get you there
I just Let page rank look after itself and i focused my self on creating a quality content, that people will read and recommend it to their friends. After you have done this, goggle will ranked you better and better

JR – I’ve only been in the blog game since May, so watching these erratic results is adding to the excitement. Every day seems different and Google Bot spent a record amount of time on my site the other day. Interesting, for sure.
@jlbraaten
Thankfully PR is not the be all and end all of being successful on line. Check the SERPS and you will see plenty of low PR sites out ranking higher PR sites. Good quality links and good content should see you right.
I’m glad I ran across your blog and posts! We are pretty new to SEO and have seen some crazy jumps in the last few weeks and this pretty mich confirms there was some kind of algo change. Actually most of the changes were to our benefit. On our main site, we’ve always focused on content and quality links and maybe that’s making a difference. We aren’t too concerned with PR, it’s the SERPs and KWs that we strive for. Great information and thank you very much!
@Eric
Good going, I think that Google seems to be looking much more at more quality links and devaluing the crappier links. But, let me tell you that you want to get some crappy links as well as the good ones, because it looks more natural. Get some social sites links, these can be good for traffic as well.
@JR, Thanks for the tip! We do some Facebook stuff and a little Myspace. We are still trying to figure out how to make Twitter work for us without coming across as a spambomber.

JR never worried about PR, you want higher PR if you Want to sell the space, i have never worried about PR and now my PR is 3.
PR usually drops when you stop link building,it just helps you in link exchange but it does’nt affect SERP at all!

Thanks Sam!
Even i faced the same issue once, my site PR was 3 and the other day it was NA, i was shocked to see what is this?
@ Mark
NA would mean that your site has been banned, when you google your domain what comes up? Also, what are you using to check your PR?
