hey JR,
My firefox browser started bogging down big time about a month ago. I have AVG and ran a scan, but it found nothing. Based on your post and others, I finally uninstalled AVG and installed Avast. Avast found a dozen viruses that AVG (and Malwarebytes) had missed, including the problem one. You are right. Avast is better! Thanks for the recommendation.

@lawed, Hi lawed, as far as running multiple spyware programs at a time, there's no harm in it. I run several different programs at once on my computer. Each one is beneficial in their own way, and one may find something that the other won't. I actually recommend having several instead of using just one. It could be leaving stuff on your computer that you don't want on there.

I have decided to take the risk of maybe changing the subject of the thread by posting here.... but I did feel that there is a strongly related component that came to mind for me...

Is this admonition true for spyware programs as well? Is there any harm in running more than 1 on the same computer as I am doing now?

My apologies for not contributing to the primary thread topic. I have learned to uninstall a virus program before installing another.

Perhaps this little helpful freeware tool will be of interest though:

I use something called Smart Close 1.1 which allows the shutdown of programs easily to use before intalling new programs which is recommended by most install programs.

It takes a snapshot of the computers open programs first, closes them down- then you do the install- return to Smart Close for the Restore function and Oila! Back to the pre-install status except the newly installed program is now resident on the computer. :)

For good measure, I usually Restart my computer at that point- but that is a personal decision for you.

I find that Smart Close tool very convenient whenever I want to run just 1 program and close others down and restore when I am ready to very easily.

@Surfers paradise, You must first uninstall your current antirvirus program before attempting to install the new one. I'm not sure why but it creates a lot of problems if you try to run two at the same time, and most installations won't succeed.

Maybe someone here has a solution, but from my experience it can't happen.

I was using AVG and switched to Avast Free as a result of reading this post. I also ran Malwarebytes, It found 4 trojans and eliminated them.

If anyone is interested in a super all=around PC utility Advanced System Care 3 Free overdelivers in my opinion.

The best antivirus to me is kasperky. I had a virus on my pc and avast could not do anything. Kasperky did a better job than avast. From your review, I would conclude that some anti virus softwares are better in remove some virus than others.
