Of all the backlinks you can get the most powerful are within content backlinks, with keyword anchor text on keyword rich related pages, and if they are one-way than that’s the ultimate backlink. Yes, these are stronger than sidebar/blogroll, top commenter and blog comments.
A within content link is basically when another site or blog backlinks to you with your anchor text within written content on one of their inner website pages or blog posts and of course the content needs to be related to your keyword.
Sometimes you can get these backlinks naturally when other blogs and sites link to you, that is great, but often the anchor is off because they guess at it and in reality effective link building is mostly manual and you have to find people who will give you quality backlinks and not lame links pages, or reciprocals as most webmasters want to do.
I am going to refer you to the ultimate resource for these types of backlinks.
1. The members understand how to build links, they know what their doing, and you will get one-way, within content keyword anchor links on keyword related/optimized pages.
2. You can check out the sites that you will link to and that are linking to you and no, you will not get a thousand links at once and set off any alarms!
Basically, you set up your anchor links for other members to choose from and they do the same, no limits! You give links and you get links, period.
All links are validated and tracked by the website so no checking required and you can view them yourself from your dashboard and by going to the site itself.
Everything is done manually by the members, including the choosing, no footprint, no lame codes or automated links whatsoever, it is basically just a place to find like minded site owners who have a common goal (we all know what that is).
Connect Content is only $12 a month, believe me it is the best $12 you will ever spend, the cost is there to keep it a private place and keep the idiots, hater competitors, scammers and spammers out. Right now there are a lot of members, but we need more so that we may all reach our goals.
I am not going to say more than this for obvious reasons, suffice it to say that this is extremely beneficial to all of us bloggers and webmasters and I strongly recommend that you guys go over to Connect Content and sign up, you will not regret it.

I’ll second that endorsement for Connect Content. They are great, and the owner takes great care of the system. For the price, there’s really no better or cheaper alternative for a safe, secure, and high quality backlinking solution.

I’ll see you there!
I’ve been doing the same thing for many years: participating on like-content Forums that are specific to DJs, weddings, music, and other KW from my site.
Unfortunately, there are NOT forums for every profession or niche…..and this concept is great for those unlucky folks who can’t find a Related/Relevant forum to drop anchor!
What is their money back policy? Some niches you’ll probably be able to find a lot of places to get in-text links from, but there’s probably a lot of other niches you’ll have a lot harder time finding in-text links for.

There is no contract or obligation, and subscriptions can be terminated anytime by the user or admin.
Refunds will be handled on case by case basis, determined by your participation in the network. I suppose if you just joined and do not like what you see then a full refund should not be a problem.
Believe me, the $12 bucks is well worth it, and yes some niche keywords may be difficult, as they are anywhere else because they are odd, or obscure and not an elusive niche, but I did add some long tails, almost full sentences and got backlinks the same day.

The site doesn’t seem to say much about what they do. Are you sharing articles and content which have the links or just links that each website owner uses as appropriate?

The information is meant to be vague for obvious reasons. Okay, if you were on there and you added a link request with Baltimore Investing as the anchor along with your url, and I am browsing link requests and I have a blog that is about investing, and so I put your link in an investing related post exactly as you entered it in your request, because your url is relative to mine and the respective blog post and I like your site and think it would be useful to my readers
And then you do the same for others and vice versa, unlimited.

Bloggers would do well to automatically seek out and link to other blogs in their niche. I use Zuula’s blog search to find the most recent, relevant blog posts and either link them within posts or add them as additional resources at the bottom.
I make it a point to link related posts written by those who read and comment in my blog. I even encourage bloggers to drop related post links in my comments. I routinely move them up into the body of posts and/or link them into new related articles.
It is important that we all do as much as we can to support our fellow bloggers. The more we benefit them the more we also benefit.
Check out my categories and if you have content related to mine leave the links in the comments which are dofollow. They are also a good way to get my attention so I’ll share them at Twitter, FriendFeed, and cliKball.

Thank you for the welcome. I am online all day almost every day sharing the best content I find each day. Those who leave comments in my blog or @GrowMap at Twitter to remind me are those most likely to have their work shared.
I do make an effort to revisit those I’ve already discovered – usually because I see their comments in another blog. I hope you’ll have time to visit me too.

@InternetStrategist@GrowMap, You suggest linking with similar sites in your niche but won’t that be a bad idea sine you are linking to your competitors, competitors that may have more content and better content than you?
@Albert
One of the worst mistakes is worrying about losing traffic to other sites via link building, believe me the small amount of traffic that may leave your site for theirs does not compare to the benefit of quality links from relevant sites.
A link from your competitors, especially when your site is new and they have PR is pure gold.
Those keyword anchor text links are the main and most important venue to higher rankings, which equals search engine traffic, which should always be the goal of any site or blog.

@Albert Instead of thinking of them as competitors try thinking of them as collaborators. As JR mentions, exchanging links will benefit you and possibly more than it benefits them.
Most Internet users know how to find your “competitors” so it isn’t likely that not linking to them is going to make any difference.
There are many Internet Marketing blogs but I don’t see any of them as competitors even when they might promote something I recommend too.

@JR: This definitely looks good. Are you expected to link from the same blog for which you want a link? That might result into some reciprocals. I would probably use a different set of blogs for providing links to the network and a completely different set of websites that will need some link love.
It definitely looks like a good thing for $12 per month. I will try them out if I can just make sure there are enough bloggers that might want to link to my content.

No that is the beauty of it, no recips you will see how it works, recips only happen by accident, the links are one way because they are picked at random by members, and since you can see who is linking to you you can pick others to link to to avoid recips.

No, it just means there is no obligation on either parties parts, no contracts or anything. You do not have to use it right away, all though you will want to, it’s real easy to add links and add your anchors.

Cheapskate that I am, my strategy is to get these types of things organically.
For example, I regularly help out a busy blog owner with suggestions or comments, and then Collin gives me a shoutout
with anchor text in one of his main blog posts. This has happened more than once. Someday soon…. I’m going to change the format of my links page to a content based template.Even the name “Links” will be removed. All of my outbound links will be anchored in content.
Not only will it improve readability of the page, but it will also create a more Google-friendly design.
