@InternetStrategist@GrowMap, I wouldn’t place much stock in anything compiled by Merchant Circle….. Those 1100 small businesses who answered their survey — most probably don’t have a web site of their own……I know this because I’ve helped several small businesses set up their MC page, despite not having a web site. Since IAC and CitySearch bought Merchant Circle last year, they severely crimped MC’s search engine presence on Google. Now, those businesses are seeing less traffic at their MC page. Hence, the survey results!

Locally in California, I have been steering everyone to Yelp(dot)com…its a great source of useful information about local businesses…..and the site is spreading to other states and countries rapidly!

Have you seen that survey that Merchant Circle did? It is mentioned and linked in the first paragraph of the post shown in the CommentLuv link. When 1100 small businesses respond and 73.1% of them report revenue is moderately or severely down that really is a wake-up call. We all need to be really proactive and work smarter. I don't know about clothes but I do know that every blogger could probably be selling magazines related to their niche. They usually have affiliate programs that pay 30+% and are an easy sell. Interestingly, despite the recession, online sales in the UK are actually up on last year. It seems that more and more people are going online to find a bargain so, as you mentioned, any sites that helps people get a good deal will do well! Within content links from external sites back to yours are some of the best juice links there are, when looking for link exchanges those and home page links are the ones to shoot for. The content links to my internal pages also help to give the SE’s relevance to your sites inner pages for relevant KW, and provide a nice deep webpage, which G likes a lot.
