I also was surprised by the 40% article marketing. I have published quite a number of real estate articles but got very sick of doing them, and concentrated more on building up a few outside blogs along with my on site blog.

Manual Link Building Time Strategy:
25% – Do Follow Forum Sig Links (mostly relevant forums)
20% – Blog Comments (like this one)
15% – Article Marketing
15% – Directories (must have sub-category= Weddings)
15% – Web Portal profiles
10% – high authority “no follow” sites (Yelp, Y! Answers, etc)

Great post, JR. Manual link building sure always does the trick. Pretty tedious at some times but it always pays off in the end. I also get one of my keyword on G’s first page doing this. Best effort and hard work pays off.

Many have said that natural linking is still the best. While I know it takes more work to get in touch with people to do such linking, taking months to complete such natural linking as experienced by Dennis, may not necessary be what most experienced. So far I've exchanged 3 natural link exchange requests during the last 5 weeks and each of them was completed within 2 days. All I did was send a PM to a few friends in my forum. I guess it's my own laziness for not having done too many natural link exchanges, and not the process itself. For me manual linking is the only option and has given me many top 10 positions in Google, It takes time to build these links but for SEO purposes , it must be done.
