I figured I will post light this Saturday and offer a big piece of advice that has saved me along the Internet marketing journey. USE YOUR BOOKMARKS!!
Weather you are using Internet Explorer
or Firefox
both browsers give you the greatest invention since ice cream...Bookmarks!
I will tell you that you should always keep very organized bookmarks for the simple reason that IT WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE!
The reason is that there is tons of information that you are and will be coming across as you wor
k, from helpful blog posts, guides, tools, resources, etc..., the possibilities are endless, and if you don't keep organized bookmarks as you go, you will be scrambling and pulling your hair out when you want to go back and find something.
It really does give a lot of peace of mind to know that the stuff is there and well organized, especially with all we have on our plates in this biz and because I am sure that most of us do not have personal assistants
The browsers really make it so easy to bookmark with drag and drop capability that there is no excuse not to. Some of you may be just clicking bookmark for everything, but, the problem is that you then just have a long list, without any order, this leaves you having to look through a possibly massive list...ugh!
What I do is I have folders in my bookmark tab that are titled for specific subjects and then I just drop relates links into those folders
Just a few that I have are:
- Active Affiliate Programs (for easy check of $$$$
) - Site Launch Submissions (list all tasks/submits for a new launch)
- Forums
- Add URL
- Products Maybe to Promote
- Content Research (folder for each of my sites)
- Word Press Stuff - Plug-Ins
- Website Promotion/Traffic Sources
- Tools and Checkers
- Must Reads
and many more...
How and what you organize is totally a personal thing, but just make sure that you do, because believe me when you are working and very busy, you will come across things you want to save for later, and resources you currently use and you will want to have these things easily categorized and accessible, IT WILL SAVE YOUR SANITY!!
By the way, I just added 1GB of memory to my PC and WOW, $25 on Amazon for the module, did it myself took 5 minutes, I feel like I was released after serving 10 years in a tiny cell, my PC is flyiiiing without ANY limits. If you have low memory I highly recommend it!!
What do you guys think? Do you keep bookmarks? Any tips for staying organized?

I use bookmarks mostly for todo stuff. So having lots of bookmarks means I am behind on reading and such.

JR,
I agree whole heartedly. I started to get so much information that it was absolutely unmanageable. I would remember that I had seen something but had no idea where it came from. Then I made a new folder for each bookmark because my topics were so focused. Well that didn’t help. I just had a whole bunch of folders to look through. Finally I did what you do and picked a few big topics to create folders. This is working much better.
I also ran into the problem with my Google reader. I created folders there also so I can quickly look at the few blogs I read instantly, like this one, and not be bothered by the ones I only look at on the weekends.
Thanks for the info.

@ Ben,
So right, it is just the thing that can make you so frustrated that you say F–k it to everything
Actually, my bookmark list is a mile long and I was just thinking that it could use some pruning! Seems I overuse this technique.but you’re right -it’s an essential internet marketing tool!!!

Yes organize them ASAP before the list gets bigger and it will
Hi JR,
I do organize my bookmarks like what you have mention on the post. I categorize the sites under comment, affiliates, forums, softwares etc. It makes the time spent over the Net more productive since I dont have to scroll down too much to look for the site link

I frequently bookmark sites and I keep my bookmarks organized but I rarely revisit the sites that I bookmark simply because I want new information concerning internet marketing and search engine optimization and that is primarily the only type of site that I have interest in visiting.
But with that said, I love social bookmarking sites like digg and delicious and I trust that the information will be great depending on the amount of diggs or comments that the bookmark attracts.
Jr, I use my bookmarks almost daily! I mean my brain can not remember everything! YIKES! Instead of bogging my PC down with extra stuff I use Delicious to hold all of my bookmarks!

Well, I don’t use browser bookmark as much as Google’s so I stay organized pretty much at the mercy on Google. I figure I could easily access my bookmark everywhere I go since I do travel a lot. On last check, my FF bookmark was empty….

Delicious is my best friend. I save everything I need over there. Tags and descriptions make it easy to find what I need, whenever I need. I tried other services, such as Diigo, but I couldn’t get used to them.
Sometimes I also save links and keep notes at Backpack. It’s a great tool and comes in handy when you want to do things that wouldn’t be possible at Delicious.
I’ll be the first to confess my bookmarks aren’t as organized as I’d like LOL!!! But hopefully my new website will be able to help with that

Hi JR,
Thanks for the reminder. I’m a little guilty of not being too organized when it comes to bookmarks.

This is actually a great tip, one that I already do. I don’t organize them quite like you, but I have all my bookmarks categorized twice, once in a main category, then in specific subcategories where applicable.

I always use bookmark for sites and webmaster tools that is very useful. I agree to you. But, getting a organized bookmark can be time consuming.
Hi JR,
I create folders on various subjects and save my material in the specific folder to keep organized.
Rhonda
I don’t really have that many bookmarks to worry about….so its never been a problem for me!
I completely agree with what is all said above. Keeping your bookmark organize is essential and could save you a lot of time. I had recent experience where I can’t find the page for the website editor that I plan to use, and I almost run on my wits. From then on I keep all my bookmarks settled on its appropriate file folder. Truly it saves your sanity!
