Great post, you would think this would be an obvious one, especially as most people looking at blogs these days are interested in promoting a link back. What annoys me, and I am finding this more and more, is that blogs advertising the fact that they are promoting comments with keywords anchors then do not publish your comment when you make one! Frustrating for the likes of me as I always read the post and make an appropriate comment! Wouldn't mind being rejected if I was actually 'spamming' i.e. 'great post/great blog' on every blog I visit.

Would you happen to have any advice or list of decent blogs that are proven to accept keyword anchor links to a genuine ‘commenter’? If you do, please email.

Many thanks.

Oh, by the way – great post / great blog!

Thanks for taking the time to explain this SEO principal to everyone.

It's surprising how many bloggers have dofollow comments but don't want their commentators to use SEO anchor text.

Thanks JR, it is great to actually get some help back when writing thoughtful comments on Do-Follow blogs. It is interesting though, that some of the do follow blog writers get upset with you if you change the URL you are linking to. It is nice to actually get links to a different interior page such as a larger real estate website, after a while. Keep writing. This is great.

Thanks for posting this. I just wanted to you know that my blog is a do follow blog as well. I also have a great little plugin that creates a link directory on my site, so feel free to post there as well. I would appreciate a reciprocal one for the directory though. One last thing - I do use nofollow links for links on my sites that don't need juice such as terms of service, guarantee etc.

Oh and yes and I guess Grizz would probably want the PR6 link too, probably. I don't want to say too much if you know what I mean, but sometimes it is also a matter of free vs. paid, you feel me? When you look at it from that perspective that can make a big difference between PR links, you know what I mean?

Hi Greg,
That idea did not come from those bloggers. I actually just started reading Caroline’s blog and the other’s rarely offer any hands-on information anymore, John Chow mostly blogs about eating… lol.

I actually got this idea from experience, all though I know I am not the only one who believes this. The reason I prefer a 100 PR1 links, is because most of them will not stay PR1 a lot of them will rise in PR over time, so while I may get them as PR1 the next update 50 of them may become PR2 and 20 of them will PR4 for example, or 50 will become PR3 and 25 PR2, 15 PR4 etc… and that has been my experience. And the next update may be even better…make sense?

I am not saying that high PR links like PR6 are not great, but if I had to choose those 100 PR1 links can become much more valuable in volume of higher PR’s in the future than the 1 PR6 link.

Plus the fact that unless you are buying links, it is not so easy to get PR6 links when your site is new, much easier to get the 100 PR1’s that will grow over time and once those sites blow up, try to get a link from them then, very difficult.

Many times people discount lower PR sites because they are looking for those magic high PR links, but this is unrealistic and limits the possibilities greatly, and I think people forget that PR takes time to grow and those lower PR sites often will rise and explode and may surprise those that did not get in on the ground floor.

Same thing happened with this blog, when I first started I had requested some link exchanges with people who did not answer me because it was a PR0, but in two months came the G update and this blog went from PR0 to PR3 and now I get all kinds of requests for link exchanges.

This is a technique that has worked for me and this blog for instance sits on page 3 of SERPS without quotes with over 62,000,000 competition and it is a fairly new site, and most of my direct text links, trackbacks and sites linking to me one-way are from non PR6 sites.

I also have a couple of niche sites that sit on page 1 without quotes and the only PR 6 links are a few social bookmark sites, which mostly are no-follow anyway.

I build diverse links from all kinds of sources, low and high PR and it is working.

Give me one PR6 link over 100 PR1 links any day. Where do you get such ideas? Must be coming from shoemoney or john chow or carolinemiddlebrook. I see you posting over at Grizz's site, but I can bet Grizz would also rather have the 1 PR6 link. What do you think?

JR reply on September 4th, 2008 11:46 pm:

@ Minneapolis
First, welcome to the blog!

Do-follow comment blogs are always good for backlinks, I would not worry too much about link juice being passed, in any situation. All in all, if you are actively building links, from diverse sources, such as articles, directories, social sitesl, forum sigs, blog comments, the collective amounts is what is important and not so much the individual juice being passed. I would rather have 100 PR 1 links than 1 PR 6 link!!!

Also, if you only look for high link juice links, that is a RED flag for Google, because it looks artificial, you always want lots of different links from different sources because they look natural.

I have never experienced any “dilution”, I comment on many high comment blogs and the link is counted every time.

If I am actively link building, at the end of the month I will have say 3,000 links, it’s the collective 3,000 that is important, and not so much the individual links. And, commenting on blogs is good for traffic from other readers, and you can easily pick up hundreds of links per month just being active on a few blogs.

I, as an active multiple blog commenter will always beat the guy who does not comment on blogs :-)
