Keyword Anchor Text and a Reminder To My Readers - Do-Follow Blog
Internet Marketing, Link Building, Search Engine Optimization Add commentsBy, JR
For our on-going Internet Marketing efforts, I wanted to remind my readers that this is a Do-Follow comment blog, this means that the link to your websites in comments counts as a backlink with the search engines, is a part of your link building efforts and to help you to rank for your keywords. This is my way of saying thanks to all of my great commenters.
The reason I am writing this post is that I am noticing that some commenters are using their first names as the anchor of their website link, probably because the comment form says name, however this is where your keywords should go so that you can get the benefit of the backlink. I am pretty sure that you guys don’t want to have your websites rank for your first names ;-).
If you are unsure about the meaning and importance of anchor text please refer to this post: The Important of Anchor Text in Link Building.
The short and quick of it is you need to have your keywords in the anchor of your website links whenever you are link building for search engine optimization.
When you comment on this blog and other do-follow blogs (that allow keywords) you should use your keywords as the anchors by putting them in the name spot:
Then when you submit the comment, your keywords will appear as the anchor text of your url and you have a nice backlink with your keywords to your site!
Make sure to subscribe to this blog to get updates for new posts where you can leave comments. I hope this helps you guys!

You mean something like this? :o) Well, some of us knows about this but majority of people allows only names and not keywords so we are kind of used to that.
Anyway, really nice blog. I’ve been reading it a while and I think I’ll continue

Hey JR, this really is a weird coincidence again as I published an article yesterday about a plugin called keywordLuv. I installed it on SEO Horror and what it does is that instead of putting your name in the name field you enter something similar to “Ben@SEO Horror” or “Ben@Internet Marketing”. The link in the comment will be the keywords, but we’re still able to see a name in there! Anyway, check this out man, this really is a nice addition!

Oh, boy, do I feel like a doofus! lol For me the form is automatically populated so I never really noticed. And even if I had, I wouldn’t have known to change it!
I will definitely read that article on anchor text. And thanks for your blog…never fails, every time I read it, I learn something new.

in my opinion that is taking more of a liberty on the commentators part, in my mind it shows they are just after links and if it happened to me i would just deny them that link.
Keyword love though as mentioned above is a slightly better idea and I have been replacing my site with that plugin. As to encourage comments but not so much as to just make it feel like spam.

Some publishers are hesitant to do such strategies to blogs when they visit the latter for the reason that the owner might think of it as a spam. But then again, there are good persons, like you, helping out newbies like me. Thanks much and more power to your site!

JR Thanks for allowing Do-Follow links on you blog. It’s important on our part as a commenter that we actually write something usual and pertinent to the post. It help the blog because we are adding useful content, and because the comment won’t be looked upon as spam. It helps us because the blog owner is more likely to approve our comments.
Do-Follow links are a win-win for both the blog owner and the commenter, but it requires we don’t abuse it.
Thanks

I think this says a LOT about your “mindset” here and I really appreciate your policy.
The whole do-follow movement’s purpose was two fold: increase comments AND link juice. I am truly baffled by the blog owners who claim to be no-follow but then moderate comments to REMOVE the keywords!
Your blog is a breath of fresh air. I can’t wait to be able to say “I was commenting way back when” about this blog!

Having commentluv and keywordluv is a fantastic way to get more comments on your blog. When people take the time to write a useful and helpful comment on a post, a link back is a good reward.

The truth is that Google does NOT count no-follow links for link juice and page rank they are worthless, however Yahoo ignores the no-follow and does count all links for link juice.

I go back and forth with do-follow and no-follow on my blog. I can’t decide. Last time I changed it to do-follow I got a ton of crappy comments that were obviously there only because of the do-follow. So I switched back. I wish people would make just a little effort to make a comment that relates to the post rather than the mindless “This is a great blog, I will tell all my friends”.

That is a really helpful explaination of anchored links in do follow comments and their purpose. My goal is an even exchange with a blog owner. I need a do follow link, the blog owner needs content. I usually write long, meaningful comments. So I am perplexed when a blog owner will not approve my commet.
