When do you get your best ideas? For me, it is usually when I am driving, or at the supermarket, or doing anything else BUT actually working. Often great niche, Internet marketing, website promotion, link building ideas will pop into my head and by the time I get home, of course, they are long gone.
It is a fact that when we are actually sitting at the computer and working on our websites or affiliate marketing is when we are least creative, mostly because we are too focused on the task at hand.
But when our mind is just drifting around, such as when driving, working out or washing dishes that is when the best ideas can just pop into our heads.
I think for the most part that these ideas are truly the best because they are not forced they come naturally as an inspiration and as the old saying goes, the light bulb goes off.
This is so most important in the field of Affiliate Marketing for niche ideas. When you are out and about and seeing things and people in the world around can trigger some great niche ideas, even while watching television or a commercial, there are so many possibilities for a niche to creep into your mind.
Don’t Let These Great Ideas Be Forgotten
That is why I started carrying and having a notepad and pen with me at all times. In fact, I have several, strategically placed so that I am always armed and ready. In reality, these spontaneous ideas are easily forgotten and unless you write them down, you will lose them.
Don’t Let These Great Ideas Go To Waste
Also, it is important not to waste these ideas by just writing them down and then not referring back to them, implementing them and developing them. Because, these ideas are often the greatest ones you will ever have you may miss out on a great opportunity.
What do you guys think? When do you get your best ideas? What do you do with them?

I agree, although there are times when I’m on the computer and something will pop into my head to add to my websites but since I’m working on something else, I’ll put it aside to get to it later. And of course, I forget! Pen and paper are essential tools to capture those ideas.
In fact, I had an idea the other day that there is a way to somehow record (audio) your ideas on to your cell phones? Or did I dream that? Don’t know….didn’t have pen and paper with me!

Duh! I wrote this the other day and apparently I didn’t dream it…there actually
is a way to record audio on your cell phones. At least on mine. It’s called “Voice Notes” on “fun and apps”. Oh, well, now I just have to figure out how to use it!

Well what do you know — I picked up my Blackberry and found the voice notes. Has good sound, plus you can pause and restart without hearing it in the replay.

I have not only my best ideas while driving (or when showering), I have entire conversations with one hand on the wheel, the other holding my stainless steel never-get-cold coffee mug!
My husband says to get that pen-size recorder, or whatever they use today. My problem with that is, when I try talking to a machine, my words disappear. I don’t do radios, try to maintain the silence while the thought is clear, and then when I stop I jot down just a few key points to write about later. (I also am always “armed and ready” with a pen and journal.) If I’m on a highway, I write not looking, and the pen scratches are unreadable to anyone but me. But I must get to my notes fairly quickly…
I approach paintings the same way. I’m given a challenge, or I have an idea of what to paint, but must let the idea brew awhile before knowing how to do it. I doodle a whole lot — that gets my arm and brush and pen reacquainted with what’s going on in my head. A little like Julia Cameron’s “stream-of-consciousness” writing, only it’s a stream of doodles.
Great post — thanks for making me think. (I will spend more time here, Ms. JR, learning what I can from you and your links…)

I commented here to test your DoFollow thingie. The only problem I see is that I have published two blog posts since the one listed here. “What is Your Favorite Day” is NOT my last post. Hmmm…..

Hi Barbara,
Welcome to the blog and actually the do-follow is for your name anchor so that is working fine, the blog post is the Comment Luv plug-in and has been acting up lately, not just here, but on many blogs I comment on as well, sometimes it parses a non-current post and sometimes does not parse any blog post at all. The Comment Luv plug-in is updated and current so I an not sure what is causing these problems.

Hello Barbara,
Thank you for our thoughtful thoughts, I too write while driving and not looking at what I am writing, my son often asks me how I can read what I wrote, but I can and I am getting straighter in that writing over time
